"everyone and their mother already said that Les Poissons is the same as Be Our Guest, even though Poissons was written first. Oh well."
Sorry, I clearly missed all those reviews where people said that. But I also wasn't talking just about the music, I was talking about the staging too. The reprise of Les Poissons just screamed spinning plates and giant forks.

"The main problems were with the costumes. The mermaids did not look like mermaids. I tried so hard to not hate them, but by the end I wanted to personally rip all the tails off. I liked the idea of use of heelys. I personally think the costumes should've been done, if anything like they do it in their Disney on Ice productions with the fins coming out of the bottom sides of the designed pants. At least then, when the performers legs are together, it would look like a solid fin and wouldn't have this mass of material to hide their legs."
You mean like this?

Kate2,
I do think that is a man playing Ariel.
But, keep in mind that it was a Disney on Ice show. Most of the dialouge and singing there are pre recorded.
But, I do find it funny that it is a man trying to do this.
I am seeing the show this afternoon. I just got my ticket and I am at the Times square information center.
I just heard that the sets ect weren't that good from the rear mezz. This makes me a bit worried because that is where I am sitting.
I had been reluctant to see this show for a while convinced it wouldn't be good ect based on the denver write up.
But, now my thoughts about the show have turned around dramatically and I am very much looking foward. I am going in there excited but not knowing what to expect. That way I won't be having high expetations and getting upset if they aren't met.

"Even when Ursula uses the voice to distract Eric and postpone the kiss further, he still tells Grimsby to tell the princess she is too late and still picks Ariel."
When does this happen?

The "Poor Unfortunate Souls" reprise is genius.
The first time the song is sung, it's to seduce Ariel. To sympathize with her and allow her a safety blanket, to fall into Ursula's trust, so she can gain Ariel's. Literally, she says she helps poor, unfortunate souls. Subtext says she does it for a more selfish purpose. Then when she sings it again, it's for completely opposite reasons. To mock Ariel and declare her true enemy THE poor unfortunate soul. No subtext here and no help being offered. Just declaration and attack.
Love it.

Brave Sir Robin2, when Eric sees Ariel attempt to compete in "The Contest" by dancing and not singing, he realizes she's the one and as he chooses her, you can hear the "Ariel voice" and Eric tells Grimsby to tell the princess that she is too late and that he has chosen Ariel.
Saw the show very late in the previews, doubt they took that out and if they did they're idiots.
