Just got back from my NYC visit - saw four shows, enjoyed them all, but Kinky Boots took the prize. Loved every second of it. Also saw Matilda, Vanya... and Cinderella.
Was really disappointed in Cinderella. Classic music with a horrible book. Amazed that those changes were authorized by R&H Org.
Enjoyed Vanya very much and very much surprised that Sigourney Weaver was the weakest link in the show. I thought David Hyde Pierce was amazing, particularly in his second act monologue.
Matilda was enjoyable, the staging amazing and the kids unbelievable, but I thought the score was rather forgettable.
Celebrity sighting for the weekend included Jonny Orsini at Vanya for the matinee - I assume The Nance wasn't playing a matinee on the 4th. He is amazing looking up close. Wore a nice fitting pair of jeans and a tight black t-shirt.
The funniest celebrity siting was Billy Magnussen running to the theatre at 1/2 hour. He was shirtless and sweaty (anything better?) and dropped something as he ran towards the theatre door. Got a nice view of his well formed ass as he bent over to pick it up and then ran into the theatre.
Of course seeing him shirtless on the street whetted my appetite for his "costume" on stage. By the way, I assume his tattoos on his right side is permanent - I originally thought it was just for the show. He was "wearing" it on the street!
A great weekend - just too hot.
