Okay this is going to be in quite a small nut shell seeing as how I just got back to Tallahassee today and I've been in NYC for the past week. Let me start by saying I am cursed when it comes to understudies!!!!!
Wicked- Thank God there were no understudies for this one. I don't know what has been said about this show on the boards because I haven't read them in a week but all I can say is it is probably one of the best shows I have seen in a loooong time. The music is absolutely gorgeous and the set was amazing as well as the special effects. Kristin and Idina were nothing but OUTSTANDING!!!!! Kristin's comic timing is perfect and I don't have to tell you how great they both sounded. Defying Gravity gave me chills. I can't stress to you how great I felt about spending my 100 dollars on that show. I was tempted to see it again before I left and I probably should have considering.....I'll get to that later. To sum it up: See it, I promise you'll be glad you did. I haven't left the theater feeling so great in such a long time.
Little Shop- Understudy #1 I saw Jessica Snow Wilson as Audrey and I have to say I found it funny considering all the Kerry stuff I have read on this board!! She was okay as was the rest of th show. Huter was pretty good, the 3 girls were great. I do have to tell you they stopped the show after Meek Shall Inherit because of technical difficulties....I was pissed...it was finally builing to a good point too and I guess something was wrong with the plant because in the finale it didn't do a damn thing but sit right there in the shop...i guess it was supposed to kind of come out to the audience but it didn't. I will say even if it had it wouldn't have made the show much better. To sum it up: it wasn't bad, it wasn't great....I was not so pleased about that hundred dollars gone!
Millie- Understudy #2: this will be short because I'm still bitter! I had already seen it in feb. but I saw sutton's understudy katherine brunell- she was pretty good but I paid to see it again this trip because I really wanted to see sutton-well I SAW HER DAMN UNDERSTUDY AGAIN!! this time it was magan campbell and she was awful. no voice at all....I still don't understand why she was the understudy. all she could do was belt, but mind you not above like an "A"....so you can imagine how she sounded. Delta burke was suprisingly wonderful. She was so funny and I'm not even a big fan of her. some of the set fell off the hotel in one of the scenes and she completely saved it and said "I'll fix that later"!! What else?? Oh! Sorry christain b. fans but he was nothing special. after i saw the show I kind of thought to myself "he has this part because they had to give it to him in order to keep sutton till january". Before anyone tries to say I think this is a fact please know that it is just MY OPINION.
AVENUE Q- Wow!! I saw this my last night there and what a way to end it. It was amazing in so many ways I can't even describe. I laughed like never before. This was another one that I was more than happy to pay my 100 bucks for. The whole cast was wonderful. I left happy and what more can you ask for?
Sorry it was so long.....If you want to know any other details just post and I'll be more than happy to reply. One last thought: I wish 2 musicals could win the tony for best new musical...wicked and avenue q- both are very different yet Brilliant in there own way.
