My Time Stands Still Review#1

After a long anticipated wait, I finally saw Time Stands Still on Saturday for my eighteenth birthday (woot!) and I wanted to post my thoughts here.

I was front row mezzanine. The seats were fantastic. I didn't feel removed from the action at all. I got into a pleasant conversation with the woman sitting next to me on the apparent atrocity that is "Women on the Verge". It was fun.

The set was also very interesting: though I'm not quite sure I was fond of the idea of Sarah and James' room not being another room, physically. It was just a bed removed from the rest of the set. It just seemed off. LOVED the lighting and the set otherwise.

Everyone offers top-notch performances as expected. Ricci was a little stiff at first and took me a while to warm up to her, but she was simply hysterical. Linney was powerful as always- though I will admit, being such huge fans of Ricci and Linney, it's hard to think of them outside their characters because you're SO fixated on 'Omfg...this is Laura Linney and Christina Ricci @_@fwdfgwreg343482148". Brian D'Arcey James offered an incredibly real performance, as did Eric Bogosian, (whose incredibly attractive in that old man sort of way...)

It moves a bit slowly at times, but otherwise really engaging. My only regret is that they didn't sell T-shirts (or if they did, I didn't notice them) and that I didn't stagedoor.

Well worth the money. Don't miss this one. Just don't sit on the right if you can avoid it...there's a television scene which is harder to see the more right you are.

Just curious... where do you live? Have you ever been to a loft in Brooklyn (or in most of Manhattan for that matter)? A lot of studio lofts are like that, with nothing more than a curtain separating the "bedroom" alcove from the rest of the apartment.

That's what I'd figured it as when I saw the show. That it was just a studio loft they'd rented. Perhaps because they'd never been 'home' enough to require or want for anything else.

this one is up there as one of my favorite plays - masterful acting, strong connection to the characters and thought provoking subject matter. always enthralling.

I live in New Jersey. While I did understand the concept, from a staging standpoint, it just wasn't my favorite.
