So I just got back from No, No Nannette and had a wonderful time. This was breezy fun! I was reminded of two of my favorite shows, Curtains and Drowsy Chaperone(even more since Beth Leavel was in it!), both of which I grinned through anyway. In fact, this clearly is one of the shows that the Man in Chair would love so much! It was almost a sequel of sorts. I told this to Beth at the stagedoor and here is was her response:
Me: This is kind of a sequel to Drowsy.
Beth: Yea, but sober.
Overall, I loved the cast completely, there was not a weak link in the bunch, from Sandy Duncan to Mara Davi, to Rosie who surprised me in how excellent she was. Beth Leavel was incredible and had even more of a part than Drowsy. Her voice was amazing, and I enjoyed her dancing too! The company dancing and tap were both phenomenal. And boy, the highlight was were those dueling pianos! The overture was incredible, and I really enjoyed the score. (Anyone know how I can get a cast recording of this?)
This was the classic old Broadway show, the music and dancing are fantastic, nothing makes much sense(the dancers and singers just appeared every once and a while) but it is just so much fun that it didn't matter. I would love to see this come to Broadway(though I doubt it will) or at least to have a cast recording done!
Finally a quick question. Tonight was the City Center gala, and Patti LuPone came out and presented an award to Douglas S. Cramer. Very fitting since she started her Gypsy there obviously. But my question is, did she go on tonight? She was at our theater around 7:15 and out before 730 so she would have had time to make it back down, but I was wondering what happened? Anyone know? Thanks.
Edit: feel a little embarrassed spelling Beth's name wrong oops! Who, by the way could not have been nicer at the stagedoor!

As far as where to find a recording, look no further than this one...
