why is this $199?????
It's been out of print for a while.
Off to put my copy in the vault
I should be more grateful to have purchased this when it was in print. It's worth a fortune now, and yet I don't even listen to mine.

The Varese one went out of print? I have the older Polydor one, with all the murderer confessions...how much is that one worth?
Wow I haven't listened to mine in so long. Is it really worth that much?
You can get one used on Amazon.com for $99...:) that's a deal!

I have an original cassette and a CD copy still in the shrink wrap. Wish I'd bought a dozen. I don't believe any vinyl was pressed.
I have mine too. I haven't listened to it in years but came across it the other day when I was looking for another disc.

I have the LP for The Mystery Of Edwin Drood.
Oh yes, there were vinyl Lp's of DROOD when it first opened. Remember in 1986 Lp's were still the primary format. The LP came in a gatefold jacket with lots of colour pics inside, and all te lyrics printed on the inner sleeve.
The Varese/Sarabande edition can still be found in some record stores. The Polydor edition (with all the alternate endings) is the one that is very rare now.
The seller on E-bay only HOPES to get $199 for their copy.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

The all time high I've ever seen a show related title go for on eBay is the Book of the Month Club 2 CD set release of Sondheim's music. It sold for $540.00 last month. Amazing!

Frontrow , I looked at the posting. He is asking for 199.00. True , he might not sell it but it is not an item for bidding.
I have the 2 cd Sondheim Book of The Month release. I love it. That was the first time I heard anything from Sweeney Todd and I thought Joyce Castle and Timothy Nolen were wonderful in "A Little Priest" and Castle's solo in "The Worst Pies In London"
The BOMC Sondheim set is ok, but hardly worth $540! Even the booklet was somewhat disappointing.
As for DROOD, I would advise against paying this kind of money for it. I suspect that in time Decca Broadway will reissue it. When Universal bought up MCA and Polygram they obtained the rights to DROOD but at the time of the merger the masters were licensed out to Varese/Sarabande. A while back, Brian Druteman at Decca was asked about this but he thought with 2 previous CD editions it would not sell that well. However the show is done a lot at regional and community theatres so that might create enough demand.
I just checked the Varese/Sarabande website. MANY of their cast albums are no longer listed including AS THOUSANDS CHEER, THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE GOES PUBLIC, BRING BACK BIRDIE, COLETTE COLLAGE, DRAT! TEH CAT!, HENRY SWEET HENRY, I DO! I DO!, LUCKY SRIFF and NO WAY TO TREAT A LADY. If you want any of these better get them when you see them. I expect HENRY SWEET HENRY and BRING BACK BIRDIE will bring in big bucks before too long.
