re: N2N West End?

Lyric Hammersmith anyone?

Everything in life...is only for now.

re: N2N West End?

Yes - I love the Lyric Hammersmith space. Also N2N would be fantastic at the Donmar. Or perhaps the Trafalgar Studios or some other intimate theatre space.

If it was done in the street or in a barn I would buy a ticket. LOL

re: N2N West End?

I definitely think Next to Normal has great potential for a successful (albeit probably limited) run over here - though if the word-of-mouth is good enough it could extend. I think there is already enough buzz about it to make it a success. It is the one show I've seen in NYC in the last year which blew my expectations out of the water - more so than Blithe Spirit, 9-5, God of Carnage, Billy Elliot did. And if something like The Norman Conquests can do well on Broadway, why shouldn't N2N find an appreciative audience over here?
Seen some shows in my time....

re: N2N West End?

Bob I agree, Im not out on this one to banter but it is gonna be hard sell here in the UK. Rewrites will be major or it certainly wont work.

re: N2N West End?

whats to rewrite?

I dont see anything in it that would need rewriting

There is nothing in it what is to 'american' etc?

re: N2N West End?

Your saying it should play places like the Trafalgar Studios or the Donmar BUT on Broadway its in a 800 seat house!
If the British public are expecting to see a Tony Award winning show they ate gonna want to see it in a house the same size with the same production values size. That isn't gonna work and it will be gone in a month.

re: N2N West End?

The set is a small set which played on a small stage in an off broadway house where i 1st saw it so i dont think putting the set in a smaller venue would be a problem, its only a 3 tiered scaffolding set (with really pretty lights lol)

Like i said i was thinking more National for limited run.

As ive said i dont think this will play West End (i wish it would) but i thin it will have a good limited run. I think the piece (as Bob says) is universal, as is the subject matter so rewrites would not be needed, i cant think of anything in this piece that would need reworking for british audiences

Just my opinion

re: N2N West End?

The set is static except for a few manic sliding screens but it isnt small.
SADM2 DVD can be so deceptive my dear!

re: N2N West End?

Sorry to burst your bubble Mamma lol but i watched N2N at second stage fro the 4th row with my fella and my aunt (who lives there and had seen it before me), now granted i have only watched the new Broadway production on DVD but its the same set they used there and they took on to Arena Stage....so i got a nice close up of it
As i will when i go and see it in the next 2 and a bit months

re: N2N West End?

Just a small correction--- The show started out at 78.8 % and has not gone below 65%. This show has had a big following since 2002, and I think that the percentages have alot to do with that.

I do agree that this show has themes for everyone tht can/does effect everyone around the world. I think N2N can work anywhere.

re: N2N West End?

In a way it is still on a limited New York run, as it has not played very long, only time will tell how much of an audience there is for this show.

I agree with what SADM2 and Bob said, also when Ben Brantley reviewed this he stated that this is not a feel good show, it is a feel everything show", which I 100% agree with.

Think Domnar or Trafalgar though would be too small, need a theatre in the capacity of 600-900.

re: N2N West End?

Gave this some thought today be great to see N2N in London with Carrie Fisher as the mum, she would do the role spot on, with Richard Dreyfuss as the hubbie and why not have Stephen Fry as thr head doctor!
#40

re: N2N West End?

Phantom, LOL - Richard Dreyfuss can't sing, Stephen Fry is more likely to need to see a head doctor than to play one - and there is only one possible actress for Diana - ALICE RIPLEY!

Laugh all you want at my pithy casting!

But my casting is guaranteed to win 4 Oliver's, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Featured Actor/Actress, I think these 3 can give something extra special, after all all 3 of them are Next to Normal!

hey - the the Oliver for best musical.

And on an even keel.
Everything is perfect -
Nothing's real."
A bit like this board LOL.

"Stephen Fry is more likely to need to see a head doctor than to play one."

Shame!

Shame!

When I listen to Elephant Juice for the second time it's now going to get a bad review.

re: N2N West End?

Didnt Parade win Tony Awards? (book and score?) and that played the Donmar.

I dont think the public care much about Tony recognition so if Next To Normal did come over it would be wise to do it somewhere with the reputation of say the Donmar or National which have a built in loyal audience (who might care about Tony awards) and if word of mouth and reviews are strong it could then transfer.

re: N2N West End?

Scripps - I'm sorry but I just find Stephen Fry comes across as a pompous imbecile every time I see him in anything. I realize that he must have his fans (I apologise if you're one of them) but I can't see any shame in my making a jest about the fact that I find him irritating.

oh respect your point Bob, but anyone who can do the Times crossword in 20 minutes, when he was banged up, can be as pompous as they like!!!!!
#49

re: N2N West End?

I'm sure he's perfectly brilliant - I just made a comment on how he comes across to me. Didn't know he'd ever been "banged up" though?

re: N2N West End?

Stephen Fry done porridge for dabbling in dodgy credit cards, his mum had to take the Times in to keep him sane. I neither like nor dislike Stephen Fry.

Anyway the reason I chose Dreyfuss, Fisher and Fry and I am sure many of you guessed, as I said in a previous posting all 3 of them are Next to Normal, the three have suffered from bipolar.

See if you can make a better casting from the link below, you cannot have Van Gogh as he is cannot act and is dead!!!!
