For a smaller tour, BATB is coming to some big markets. I have a feeling this tour is going o be huge, it'll be the next Annie and will steal some thunder from the Wizard of Oz. This will probably be Drowsy's last tour.
"Non-equity tours don't really do full weeks"
For the most part you're right. But certain tours (DRS, Wedding Singer, Oz, Cats) that either did/do mostly full weeks, or half and half full weeks and split weeks.

The Last major national tour of Beauty was in 02-04 and that was produced by disney.
Theatre under the stars did like a small 10 city regional tour. I hope Networks doesn't ruin this broadway master peice.

Yeah, singtopher you're right about those tours doing full weeks. It's probably a good thing that BATB isn't doing full weeks in big cities, because non-eq tours are supposed to be about bringing broadway-style entertainment to smaller towns such as my own... NOT going to big cities and sitting down for a month to make double the money the tour would if it were equity.

The Rent non-Eq tours did lots of full week runs and they also did lots of big city stops.
Brave Sir Robin2, SHN has always done non-equity tours as add-ons. I doubt it will be part of the subscription.

Non-eq tours do some weird things though. When the Wizard of Oz came to chicago, it played like 8 shows in 4 days or something crazy like that.

And the 1998 tour of OZ, which was Equity, naturally, and starred Mickey Rooney and Eartha Kitt, did the same exact thing and more.. 3 show days and things like that.
Wow, I wonder what that contract looked like.
Jazz-I wouldn't think a 6th string national tour of anything would do a month in any given city, but I'm still surprised that smaller major cities like Cleveland, Denver, Baltimore wouldn't want to bring in a tour marketed towards families at a discounted price. You'd think presenters would see dollar signs when the words "Non-equity, BATB tour" were muttered.

I e-mailed NETworks and managed to get a few words out of them, but not much. Here's are conversation.
Hi! I'm [Blank] and I have two questions. My first question is, will the tour of Beauty and the Beast be a recreation of the UK Tour, The Broadway Production, The International Tour, A Brand New Never-Before-Seen production, or a tour of some other production that I missed? Also, what's going on with Cry-Baby? Has Cry-Baby been cancelled, postponed, or touring with another company? Thanks in advance,
[Blank].
Hi [Blank],
Thanks for the questions! I will have to get back to you about your Beauty and the Beast question, but in regard to Cry-Baby, NETworks is not producing an 09-10 tour of Cry Baby the Musical.
Thanks!
Hopefully it's not the UK tour.

I'm PRAYING that it isn't, but NETworks does like to take the cheep way out sometimes... and the UK tour did look rather cheep. I hope it's either the Broadway version or the International Tour version.

I know this is jumping way ahead, but I somehow get the feeling that the new guys and dolls tour will be non-equity so they can make twice the money. Does anyone else think so to? What are the odds that it would be NETworks for the 2010-2011 season (along with the Les Miz tour that was supposed to happen for their 2008-2009 season).
Cry-Baby is completely canceled & not going out at all.
NETworks was never going to produce Les Miz in 2008. The NETworks tour will be in 2010 and based on the tour that was produced by Cameron Mackintosh and Atlanta's Theater of the Stars last year.
Please, not the UK tour. The sets were okay but the rest of it was...
It's the only "professional" show I have ever seen that used strobe lights blasted liberally into the audience in order to attempt to hide the "effects" (as in, the Beast ripping his face off as he spun on clearly visible wires).
I'm intrigued by the new Les Miz but I have my reservations about this new production of Beauty and the Beast because I love the show a lot. Who produced the International Tour? Was that the production directed by Glenn Casale?

So the Les Miz tour is confirmed?
no comment
how bad are the NETworks non-equity tours, as in what is the quality.
I was excited for BATB, but they aren't going to the West Coast, ugh

As with any other shows, it varies. I've worked on NETworks tours (non eq) that were better than some of the Equity show's I've toured with. It varies. Of the non-Eqs, they're one of the best.

BATB will stop in Colorado, New Mexico, and California.
tourboi, of the non-eq tours they are THE best.
I would think that NETworks & Troika are the top for Non-Eq tours.
Les Miz may be touring in 2010? I am hyperventilating a little bit here...

^ It is, it's confirmed now. http://bbonyc.com/shows/lesmis/Default.htm
I have good news and bad news about the BATB tour.
The good news, it's NOT the UK production.
The bad news, I have NO clue what it will be like. Here's what NETworks is saying
"This production of Beauty and the Beast will be a brand new never-before-seen production. We are working with the original scenic designers to design the production of the 09-10 tour! We will post renderings as they become available!
More tour dates will be announced soon!"
