I love her dearly, but Bernadette is far too old to play Eva Peron in Evita. The character is a teenager in the beginning then a late 20's to 30 year old woman in the end.

Are we doing this YET again? Well, then here it is again, Orfeh, Orfeh and only Orfeh. Eva Peron was a petite, young woman. Julia Murney is all wrong, at least physically. And don't give me the "Julia's young" line either, she looks 40. Orfeh is a young Madonna with a VOICE.

By the WAY; when madonna played Eva, the (example) took A NEW ARGENTIA down 4 steps in one place and a 6th in another... not singing it in the real key ain't gonna cut it.

Key changes are set for Broadway leads in every show. Sometimes there are different keys for the star and the understudy.

Murney is terrific but she's too old for the role now. Kennedy on Broadway as Evita? If you thought critics who compared Bernadette to her predecessors in GYPSY were harsh wait until you'd read about Kennedy vs. Patti. It would make the Bernadette comments seem like a warm up.

It wuold allow Orfeh to be the huge success she should be.
She was the BEST thing when I saw Saturday Night Fever. And her version of If I Can't Have You was brilliant.

Jon, you and I could not agree more about Orfeh. WHY isn't that girl on every short list for major Broadway roles? Evita would most definitely give her, her much deserved place as a true Broadway star. Not just the standout in the stinkers she's been unfortunate enough to be saddled with, thus far. I think you really have to understand who Eva Peron was to imagine who could play her. I have read over eight bios on her including her own memoir. Eva was not always petite. She was 5'6 and weighed 130 pounds untill she started to get sick then she dropped down to 100 pounds before she died. You need an actress who can capture her real essence and power. The closest I have seen looks wise was the movie where Madonna was nearly identical right down to the overbite. I think she was very good in the movie.

Madonna's ACTING/capture of Eva was great, i agree. I just don't think she gave it the singing power that it needs. I am aware that they change keys for various actors in various roles, but i think this score's high belty emotionally driven musical numbers need to stay that way!

Right again Jon! You and I should just start our own campain...she deserves that role above anyone else!

Defyinggravity, if you go to Broadway.com and type in *Orfeh* in the archives, there should be lots of stuff on her.

She's this "awesome and amazing" young Madonna with the extra added bonus of a sick vocal range. She was incredible in Saturday Night Fever as Annette, but she won a fan for life in me, when I saw her portray Janis Joplin off Broadway and practically had a coronary.

You're not aware of who she is because she is GROSSLY overlooked for parts she's a no-brainer for. I'm in Los Angeles, yet I'm seriously considering flying 3,000 miles just to see her at Caesars's Palace in Atlantic City. There aren't many singers I would do that for. Well, that and the fact that I have a gigantic crush on her husband, Andy Karl.
