Mel Brooks is much more of an insider in the Academy than Chris Columbus, and his wife - beloved actress Anne Bancroft of THE GRADUATE fame - just died. Sympathies will probably be with him. Of course, there are many more fall Oscar contenders than you imagine. Jarhead, Memoirs of a Geisha, Munich, Elizabethtown, The Constant Gardener, Everything is Illuminated, All the King's Men, Capote, A History of Violence, Oliver Twist, Shopgirl, The New World, Walk the Line, Chronicles of Narnia, Brokeback Mountain, Rumor Has It... Competition is stiff. I would like to see Rent and Memoirs come out of top as great films and major awards contenders (contrary to what Marquise said in his attempt to reduce my hundreds of post about this topic to one pessimistic message), but if they didn't, then competition from other well-received films would probably play a role in that...
haha, i lovee the new footage, but I think I like the old one better. The voice annoys me too much, and it makes the movie seem like were going on some sort of ride 'an experience of a lifetime', im inlove with RENT as much as the next person, but watching a movie isn't realy an experience..i can understand seeing the show, but it just sounded kinda silly to me, idk.
