Just got the word Marshall will be on hand at a test screening of NINE tonight in LA (the first of many, I'm sure) so if anyone here goes or hears anything it would be wonderfully appreciated if you report back.

Here's hoping the few songs kept/used from the Broadway score aren't removed after these test screenings.
Good luck!
Someone said on another board that "Be On Your Own" is gone, and somehow I imagine "My Husband Makes Movies" is probably not part of it either. All speculation of course. I'm very interested in hearing about a song list too! Hopefully we'll get one.
Ugh. "Be On Your Own" is one of the best. They removed that but kept "Simple"... strange..
Maury Yeston worked with Anthony Minghella (RIP) and Rob Marshall to drastically reconceive the film-within-the-film and suicide hallucination that warrants the last few numbers leading up to the breakdown itself (and Guido's suicide if you believe the show takes place in purgatory, as was aluded to originally and almost explicity on tour with the metaphorical train station setting).
Apparently, these numbers ("Be On Your Own", "I Can't Make This Movie", "Waltz From Nine") have been filmed as we know them but a new duet version of "Simple" and a new song called "Take It All" serve the material much better than individual solos. Film is about economy of material, not excess of it (as we learned with the almost too clip-happy SWEENEY TODD screenplay).
"Take It All" is sort of a trio "Be On Your Own" with three separate melodies, two new to compliment the original (though I've heard there are a few versions). It's like "Be On Your Own" times three which sounds even better to me.
At this point, with this cast and this creative team, as long as Fellini (RIP) and Yeston approve I do as well.
I just want to hear "Cinema Italiano" for chrissakes! Those flashes of it in the trailer are just TOO too.

So we don't know if they use "Be On Your Own" or "Take It All"? Does the "Simple" duet use the original melody?
And any word on "My Husband Makes Movies" ?
For those curious ones... "Cinema Italiano" is a new song written for the film. Its the Kate Hudson number.
Where will this screening take place? I would love to go over and see if there are extra tickets.

I can NOT wait to hear how this is!!
Please post soon!
Just drive around the protests on your way there
Just to clarify, we DO know they will use "Take It All".
What we DON'T yet know is if "Be On Your Own" as a solo will remain in the film, if the version of "Take It All" incorporating "Be On Your Own" will be used or if the number will be shortened/replaced by dialogue (which, let's face it, the last line of the song could do).
Let's just hope for lots of deleted scenes and extended scenes on the DVD (kinda like DREAMGIRLS, but where are all those recitative scenes you filmed, Bill... or a Director's Cut?) because Harvey (Weinstein) has given Marhsall more lee-way with this than CHICAGO (which, under the same circumstances, would have produced "I Am My Own Best Friend" performed in side-by-side cells and "Me And My Baby" done as a cakewalk like in the OBP). I really won't mind if they keep the movie tight to keep it under 2 hours and if that means no "My Husband Makes Movies" that's fine with me, but the number was filmed and there are a few glimpses of it in the trailer (and probably not the ones you may think (think gold sequins)).
I am 100% in the NINE boat as of right now. I really cannot fathom being disappointed after what I've seen/heard... and think of all that we have to look forward to... I would expect a track listing for the soundtrack to appear in the next few weeks and just because the title of a song you like may be missing from the listing doesn't mean some or all of the song appears in a different form in another song.
Also, Weinstein is marketing this absolutely perfectly by having the trailer appear seemingly out-of-nowhere, just like the CHICAGO one did, following a mere one or two publicity shots availible during filming.
Needless to say, don't get too attached to "The Germans At The Spa" or any "The Grand Canal" unless you want to be disappointed. (That material is by far the weakest in the show anyway) And "Nine" has been drastically reworked and Sophia Loren can do ANYTHING (ANYTHING!) she wants so deal!

Where Is the screening at again? I would love to catch a work in progress cut. Thanks.
Yes, LA peeps (I'll be there in a matter of days) please keep your eyes out for people handing out FREE SCREENING passes on Hollywood Blvd, Vine, Santa Monica Blvd, etc. because I would assume that's the vicinity.
I'd say West Hollywood would be their target demo. but that's really just not true anymore (Pam Anderson covering "Believe" seems to be more their idea of good entertainment).
All I know is its happening tonight and "regular folks" will be able to attend, though they never advertise WHAT the movie will be (thus the TEST SCREENING). I know it's stupid, but that's how it works.
Be careful what you wish for or you may get a ticket for a free screening and the feature is FRED CLAUS 2.

Is it a closed screening for Marshall? Hopefully it ends up "somewhere".

I have bever seen 'Nine', but it sounds like the musical version of 'Lost'!
Wow Pgenre, thanks for all the info. I never thought that that particular scene would be from "My Husband Makes Movies." Really, as long as some of my favorite numbers were filmed and make it to the DVD, I don't mind if they don't end up in the final cut.
I hope "Take It All" is good enough to replace "Be On Your Own" since the latter is one of my all time favorite showtunes.
I'm really looking forward to a song list (glad that Weinstein is giving Marshall more free rein as I would have loved to see "My Own Best Friend" and "Me and My Baby" in CHICAGO). And I agree, I cannot wait to hear/see "Cinema Italiano" as it is--along with Penelope Cruz' "A Call from the Vatican"--the musical highlight of the trailer. It looks like it's going to be a wonderful addition to NINE and Kate Hudson is pulling out all the stops.

I actually think Simple is one of the stronger melodies of the musical, but part of what makes it so beautiful is it's original format... so I'm interested in hearing the new version.
I'm all for new concepts for film's sake but I'd be crushed if "My Husband Makes Movies" were cut.

umm did anyone actually go to the screening ? everyone's talking about there being one but no one posted anything.
While I am interested in knowing something about this, I hope it does not turn into the same as Dreamgirls, Sweeney and the like where most of the films numbers are posted online before the film opens.

Did anyone get in?
I have a pal who is monitoring this across the boards so as soon as one appears, I'll post it on here... unless someone else beats me to it.
Until then, we can only wait and hope someone posts a review.
was this screening actually confirmed?
did it actually happen?
The best place to hear about test screening reviews is usually aintitcool.com or the imdb.com page for the film and its usually not until three or four such screenings have taken place that a geek like us is lucky enough to be in the audience and care enough write up a review for the fellow geeks who aren't as lucky.
As I have said in this thread before, one does not know what the film is before they see it at these type of screenings (sometimes there are intentionally no opening credits or even a title card (or end credits for that matter) so those concerned can get the best "blind read" from an audience as possible) so we can at least be content with the fact that it is being seen by some naked eyes somewhere and every moment is a step closer to hearing what we're waiting to hear.
Plus, Weinstein is notorious for raising a stink about early reviews popping up.
