NPH - Barnum

After reading that Cameron Mackintosh would like NPH for Barnum, and given NPH' self-proclaimed love for wanting to do this part, it has to be inevitable right?? Only question is when?

NPH has said he would like to take a break after HEDWIG and be with his family, so I doubt this will happen with him anytime soon. I think there are better actors for this role.

I would be willing to wait a few years, I think he's perfect for the role.

I am about to go into rehearsals for this show, and as I become more and more familiar with the material, the more and more I see NPH in the role. Who would be Charity? Perhaps Jessie Mueller?

Jessie Mueller was a suggestion for the Chichester production that NPH was wanted for, but with Chris Fitzgerald they didn't want two unknown Americans in the lead roles which is partly why Tamsin Carroll did it (as a longtime stalwart of Cameron's shows).

As that production proved it's not a particularly great show - it really has to have someone with star wattage who can make it look easy, which Chris Fitzgerald didn't manage to do (other factors notwithstanding).

He'll be terrific in it. And NPH's idea of taking a break is six weeks. So he's already all over the score, will start his circus classes after the first of the year and pull it in to the West End in the 2015-16 season.
