NPR "Fresh Air" Podcast - Scott Rudin

Producer Scott Rudin talks with Terri Gross about how he became a producer and gives some interesting background regarding the evolution of Shuffle Along... . He also discusses The Humans, The Crucible, A View from the Bridge and Blackbird. He includes interesting anecdotes about past shows he's produced, too. Towards the end of the interview, he very briefly mentions working with Stephen Sondheim on Sondheim's new musical which he hopes will open in 2017.

Listened to this today and thought it was a pretty good interview (isn't it usually with Terry Gross, though).

The he one thing that popped out to me was when he was talking about how the Palace, St. James and Imperial will be closing for extended periods soon. The Palace, of course, to be raised, the St James so the stage can be extended for Frozen, and the Imperial because a new theatre is being built next door. But what happens if The Great Comet becomes a hit? Are they aware that the theatre owners are planning to close their theatre at some point?

There's going to be a new theatre? I thought all plans for that were scrapped.

Also how the building of one theatre imperial. I understand they will be next to eachother, but unless they are also restructuring the imperial along with building the new one I don't see why it should close.

I can't be sure, just going off what Rudin said in the interview. He said that they were going to be building a new theatre and it would mean that the Imperial was going to have to go "offline". The context was that taking three "big musical houses offline" in the next few years is going to mean that shows are going to be fighting for theatres more.

Good thing the Hudson is becoming a Broadway house maybe they should bring back the mark hellinger can be reinstated as a theatre.
