NYC Photo Opportunities#1

Posted: 7/17/08 at 11:26pm

I am an upcoming senior this year [class of 09'!] and I am headed to NYC next week. I really wanted to take some really good senior pictures while im there, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me where some really cool/unique places are to take pictures.

One place that I really want to find is the street sometimes seen in movies. It's a street that is headed towards one of the bridges, and it seems to dead end underneath it.

If anyone could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated:)

(what movie?)

Probably the Brooklyn Bridge, on the Brooklyn side.

Walk across the bridge..the greatest NY pleasure in my book. Takes time, but is worth it.
Everyone should do it once in their lifetime.
Have fun.
Go to chinatown.
See plays.

Anywhere in Greenwich Village is a cool place for a photo shoot. All kinds of funky backdrops, graffiti, parks, and a lot of cool vines and flowers.

The Lincoln Center fountain was used in MOONSTRUCK and the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park was used in ANGELS IN AMERICA.

Also:

St. Patrick's Cathedral
Rockefeller Center
The top of the Empire State Building (KING KONG)
Duffy Square and the Naked Cowboy (is he still around?)

I forget what the walkway is called (The information booth can tell you and direct you), but that walkway in Central Park. I think it is featured in "When Harry Met Sally". I went in 2006 and it was closed for repairs. But I got a really nice picture of it in 2004. I am sure someone here knows what I am talking about. it is lined with benches and trees. (Yeah, I am sure that helped!!! lol)

Greenwich Village is always cool. Be aware, Washington Square Park is under construction, but check out Cafe Wha on MacDougal St, then head west, Gay St, 53 Christopher St- Stonewall and the little park across the street, White Horse Tavern, the cup cake place on W 11th.
Also, in the East Village, St Marks Place, the body pierced grunge people are still very much there, and just around the corner on E 7th, McSorley's old saloon is a totally different world (be sure and check out the bathroom).
As far as the streets leading to the bridges, try going on yahoo maps, then just explore. Great views from South St seaport, Dumbo and Brooklyn Heights.

That street leading to the bridge is in Dumbo, right on the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge. It was used in King Kong, The Forgotten and Vanilla Sky (three of the many movies that come to mind) There are a couple streets down here that have a view like that (from different angles).
Do yourself a favor and walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and visit DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass)

I also like the view of Central Park from Top of the Rock and also the view of midtown. I have a lot of pictures taken from up there.
