In the Newsies behind the scenes book, there's an article discussing how the Broadway set was half a million over budget before opening. It goes on to read that an extra 300 grand was spent to make the deck and everything on top tourable. Pretty interesting.

I saw the off-Broadway production of RENT a few days ago, and although I was really energized by certain aspects of the production, some of the choices made by the creative team really highlighted some of the flaws within the book/score, etc. One major plot hole (I think) that I caught for the first time during this performance was Mark's response to helping Maureen with her equipment. Dumbo is on the development board for Disney, I've seen it myself. And as I recall, it was pretty close to the top.

The changes that they have done are supposed to bring the show to a more "complete" level than the original production seemed to do. Changes have been made to costuming, makeup, and other elements to create a more realistic version. For example, Mimi costuming and make-up should realistically reflect a coked-out 19 year old, whereas old productions never really presented the characters in their full truth. From what I understand, that's exactly what's going on. They're saying "stage the original or don't stage anything at all". I understand the sentiment of paying respect to Jonathan by keeping the show 'forever frozen', but stifling all creativity to do so is not worth it. We had the original production for 12 (not so long ago) years. Give us something new.

I have heared through some very reliable sources that the family of Jonathan Larson is not pleased with the changes made in this new production of RENT. Apparently, some staging, specific dance moves, and the reorchestrations are the cause of their disdain. Has anyone else heard anything on this?

Question about Linctix: I may have a problem but I am hoping it is something that really isnt an issue. I signed up for Linctix, and lied about my age. I am a mere 6 months away from being 21. I have not purchased a ticket. How strict are they about checking age, or do they even? I dont look like I would be under 21, I simply do not want to waste money on a ticket and be refused.

I work in the New Amsterdam which is one of the best parts of the job - getting to be in that space every day. The stories of the theatre and how it changed both on the interior and exterior are fascinating. My favorite story is how the carpeting was replicated. It's a beautiful house - almost too gorgeous for Mary Poppins.

It was an amazing exprience, and I'm glad my first closing show was with Avenue Q. I cried, laughed, and was so happy when the announcement was made that the show would be moving to NWS. As someone who was a tourist for a very long time, but can now call himself a permanent resident of the city, I want to voice my opinion, for what it's worth. As a tourist, I always loved Times Square before the changes, because thats the vision I always had of New York. Oh, I'm sure we have. I guess it just hasnt reached the point that it has over there. Although it wasn't really an 'incident', when I saw Ave. Q for my first time there in New York, everytime the man next to me would laugh, the side of my face got a little more preserved due to the amount of alcohol on his breath. I had to hold mine just so I wouldnt become intoxicated.
