A little bit off-topic, but does anyone know what that electric violin-type instrument was? It didn't look like a regular electric violin...
You really don't want me singing to you.... :) *dances down the sidewalk*

Posted: 9/29/06 at 1:48amI think it was just an electric violin. They do have a variety of weird shapes. Electic fiddle? Is there a difference?

Yeah, I really liked that, too. I was expecting it to sound really weird or loud or something, and it pretty much came out the same as an electric guitar.
I did like how it stuck to her, though.

Caroline-Q-or-TBoo, I'll help you with that musical. I've always thought Ben's stuff would be great. I've always listened to Zac and Sara as an opening number to a show.

Ughhhh
Of course my idea was used before I could tap it.
I always thought his music would make a great basis for a musical. My friend actually went through and started writing a book to this weaving the songs together...

Posted: 9/29/06 at 2:24amyou people better get rights for this stuff first. BEsides we really Don't need a new juke box musical, Just tel Ben to write one. Of course he should study the form. It takes more to write a musical than just theatrical songs.

Naked Baby Photos? Really? That's just a rarities album. I agree that Whatever and Ever Amen is the best CD put out by Ben Folds Five, though. Especially if you get the one with all the bonus tracks.
And for my money, his most unabashedly cheesy and "theatrical" song is "The Secret Life of Morgan Davis". Fabulous stuff.

I really liked John Gallagher's "Brick".
I also picked up Bob Stillman's cd, just because he was standing next to me going, "I'll give you a discount!" Haha, I liked him.

Rather than writing a book to weave through his already existing songs, though, I'd like much more to see him write an original musical. I think he definitely could, so why not put the supposed ability to good use? The result would probably be a much better musical anyway.
John Gallagher has a band called Old Springs Pike, and they're supposed to be really good.

I was there! I'm a friend of Michael Arden and went more for him and not for Ben Folds but I came out a HUGE Ben Folds fan! He is a genius!
Overall, it was a great concert with standouts from Michael, John Gallagher Jr (watch out for him!), Manoel Felciano, Bobby Spencer, and Liz McCartney!
I think the thing that made this concert so spectacular, was that all the performers, and Michael agreed, loved every song they were singing and really understood and appeciated Folds' music.
So bottom line great concert! Thanks NYMF!

Posted: 11/10/06 at 10:32amBen Folds was on Live from Stuido A last night and talked more about the possibility of him writing a musical. I thought he had some pretty brilliant things to say; did anyone else catch it?
