Posted: 1/10/11 at 10:33pmWho cares? It's one week and Spiderman is a new, shiny spectacle with lots of press coverage. We'll see if it can hold up and keep these numbers.

Posted: 1/10/11 at 10:54pmWOW! Now Spiderman only has to run as long as WICKED has currently, selling out each performance to break even. Way to go!!!

And it's totally meaningless when you consider two factors:
1) Spiderman has almost 1000 additional seats to sell every week.
2) Spiderman has a top (non-premium) ticket price that is significantly higher than Wicked's.
When you consider both of those things, they should be out-grossing Wicked by a lot more than a mere $58.

Posted: 1/10/11 at 11:37pmPlus, Spiderman has been offering many a discount. WICKED has yet to offer one if Im not mistaken.

Posted: 1/11/11 at 12:00amThe Foxwoods didn't have more seats than the Gershwin when it was the Hilton, yes? That's new since the renovation? I'm surprised they didn't make a bigger deal about it.

Posted: 1/11/11 at 12:06amI doubt the number is still $64 million but somewhere closer to $80. It was $64 million before the two week delayed first premiere( I am sure that delay cost them quite a few more million!), before the various injuries, before all the changes that are occurring to try to fix this piece of horsemeat.

Posted: 1/11/11 at 1:13amlast time I checked the Gershwin had 1933 seats the article says it only has 1809. So unless the theaters website was wrong the the writer of the article was wrong. The Hilton had 1829 so even if they did gain more seats (the article says there are 1930) the Gershwin still has more

Posted: 1/11/11 at 1:25amThe Times is correct - the Gershwin in its current configuration has 1809 seats. The Foxwoods has 1930, up from 1813.

Posted: 1/11/11 at 8:37amim surprised they didnt make a big deal about that since the Gershwin has been known as broadways largest theater.

It's $58... I doubt The Green Girl and her friends are shaking in their boots
... And yes, as it has been pointed out, the Foxwood is bigger than the Gershwin and the press Spider-Man has generated, not much of it good, is drawing people to it.

Posted: 1/11/11 at 10:49amLet's see. Wicked has sold out about 3000 times give or take. Let's talk in eight years.

Posted: 1/11/11 at 12:02pmWell Wicked hasn't played 3,000 performances yet, so that's not true. But I'd say they could be in the 2,000 sellout range.

#21NYT: 'Spider-Man' grossed $58 more than 'Wicked' last week
Posted: 1/11/11 at 4:00pmIt doesn't, but if people want to see it, then they'll go. If not, then they won't. That's the biz. More than likely, Spider-Man will sell well for a while. But if it doesn't recoup, it will be the fault of the producers for such a heavily leveraged production. People can point fingers at Taymor all they want, but in the end, she doesn't sign the checks.

Spider-Man is going to top the charts for a while. As everyone said, the show is gaining tons of press (mainly negative) but people wanna see a train wreck so their flocking to the show.
Pretty soon, word of mouth is going to sink in, and the high ticket prices are going to be one of the many nails in the coffin.
How much has Spider-Man discounted tickets? I thought they have not started that yet?
#23NYT: 'Spider-Man' grossed $58 more than 'Wicked' last week

It can't be discounted that much because the average ticket price was $102. Wicked was $109. The only higher average ticket prices than those were Merchant of Venice, Lion King and Jersey Boys.
Wicked prices are $56.25-$131.25. Spider-Man is $67.50-$140. I don't think an $8.75 difference is enough to get fussy about the show's top price point.
