What I miss about the absence of ATC is the sense of theater oral history it chronicled. A post saying it was the 25th anniversary since show x opened brought out wonderful reminisces. Recently someone posted how perched near the theater box office he heard Barbra's first audition for "Funny Girl." Thrilling. I think that's why there's the impression that BWW skews younger.
Spiderman Preview Thread!

I love the Freudian "threat." I guess you meant the 2011 "thread" and the "threat" that it will still be running in 2012 with no official opening.

Sorry about that. I did a search on Riedel and not the story itself so I thought it wasn't posted yet. Please forgive a newbie.

What are good sources of material of "Jumbo?" Thanks.
Jackie Mason vs. "Spider-Man"
 Jan 21 2011, 07:26:59 AM
Mr. Mason, who later found Broadway success with one-man shows like “Jackie Mason’s The World According to Me,” had few words of advice for “Spider-Man,” which he described as “a war zone.”

“Nobody was getting killed during my show,” he said. “I was the only guy getting killed — by the critics. But I had the decency not to kill other people.”

Michael Riedel's interesting view of "Spider-Man" vs. the critics
 Jan 19 2011, 06:39:52 AM
They hope the reviews will appear higgledy-piggledy, each one barely being heard above the noise already surrounding the show.

What they don't want is an avalanche of bad notices on the same day.

Evening Primrose - DVD Original Cast
 Jan 18 2011, 09:03:28 PM
Everyone has their favorite interpretation of a song but there's something special about the original one. That's the first voice the songwriter gets to hear and write for. I just got it from Netflix as well. It's incredible and there's so much future Sondheim in it. "I Am Here/I'm Still Here," "When/Now-Sooner-Later," "I Remember/Liaisons."

And for ABC to air it...

Any info to share on the production itself? I'd love to know why David Shire is listed as Assistant to the Cond

Not just the interview but "Ms. Winfrey also wrote that after seeing just a couple of numbers in rehearsal, she told her schedulers to “clear the decks for opening night: ‘I have to be there!’" Maybe they keep changing Opening Night to accommodate Oprah's busy schedule.

NJ Star-Ledger ignores embargo, reviews "Spider-Man"

Ben Brantley: What "Spider-Man" could learn from its neighbor "Cymbaline"
 Jan 17 2011, 06:41:06 PM
"Since I left with equally fond feelings toward all the fresh-faced cast members, I’m singling out only one performance, that of the sheet. It is white, unembroidered and, I would guess, queen-sized. Before the show ends, it has effortlessly become a billowing sea, a virginal bedspread, a mournful shroud and a Roman toga, among other things. Like the trunk, it deserves its own curtain call.

Psst, Ms. Taymor. I hear there’s a white sale at Macy’s."

I love that last line. B

Question on selecting a closing weekend
 Jan 17 2011, 04:59:31 PM
Why did N2N choose yesterday for their closing performances? Do successful shows try to stay away from each others last moment in the spotlight? If ALNM did not close last week, would N2N have chosen it instead? Thanks.
