The songs are the best part of the show. The book is... not.

I hated this. It’s just trying soooo hard to be edgy and it just misses the mark all around. I’m also kind of over the trope of someone being gay being used as a plot twist. The performances were great but I just didn’t really connect with any of it.

That's interesting! At the preview, we saw, there was no mention of gay. There was... a nearly intimate moment between two characters but it stopped short of kissing or any mention of "gay."

I couldn't even tell if it was trying to be edgy? It just seemed... unfinished? There'd be a great line here or there... and certainly it COULD be a very timely story... it just felt unfinished and like even they weren't quite sure what story they were telling.

I thought all the musical numbers were well performed, mostly well staged, and in some cases quite thrilling... tho they hardly ever had anything to do with the plot (if you can call it that).
