I believe Sweeney and Bee will be under the Phoenix Entertainment group.

I just saw their production of Ring of Fire this past week in Dallas as a friend of mine is performing the female ensemble. I can't say the show itself has changed in quality from Broadway, but the talent was outstanding.
It's absolutely preposterous to assume that a non-eq tour would not encompass talent. Lea Salonga will be performing a non-eq tour of Cinderella touring through Asia with non-eq actors, is she not talented?

I had been wondering about this. The GEVA Theatre in Rochester has announced that it's presenting "Sweeney" Feb. 18 to Mar. 29 next year. I was wondering if this was going to be the Doyle production or a completely separate one? I'm not familiar with the rules in this case--is a professional theater like the GEVA allowed to put on its own, unrelated production of "Sweeney" while the Doyle production is touring?
Mark Cuddy--the GEVA's artistic director--is listed as director, but there's no cast or other production information listed on the Web site yet, just a basic plot synopsis.

It is Geva's own production of Sweeney Todd. Rights for productions and tours deal with proximity of productions at certain times. When Geva applied for the rights for Sweeney Todd, there were (and remain) no other planned productions of Sweeney Todd within a certain radius of Rochester during the period in which Geva has the rights.
The production will be entirely original and not based from anyone else's previous productions of Sweeney Todd. The web site will offer more information as it is available. www.gevatheatrecenter.org

Posted: 12/9/08 at 4:27pmI'm sure the producers of an Equity tour of this version of Sweeney would gladly give ANYONE their card who could meet the very particular requirements of this production. So an Equity tour would have a larger talent pool to draw from in casting, and hence would be better.

Posted: 12/9/08 at 10:31pmStay away from the non-equity production. Equity is good in negotiating contracts and has done some great work and compromises. If they couldn't come up with a compromise from turning an equity production into a non-equity production, there must have been many concessions and it still didn't work out.

And it featured Ruthie Ann Miles as Pirelli.
