Hi, I’m auditioning for Musical Theatre schools this jan and i’ve been asked to do a contemporary monologue. Thats fine! I was going to do Lennys' one from Rumors however i’ve now been told that it can me a max of 2 mins and seen as Lenny's monologue is 7 mins, i don’t think thats allowed!
So I’m doing to Shakespearian Monologues (Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth) which both are serious so i’m thinking of a comedic one, thats under 2 mins.
Thanks for you help!

We need a little more information. Are you a male or female? What is your "type"?
eta: Can you edit your current monologue down to 2 minutes?
I am a Male age 18, I don’t know what u mean by type?
The conditions are that the contemporary speech must be written after 1960 and no more then 2 mins.

Type is how casting agents decide what part you fit into. Are you leading man or character actor.
For example: Cheyenne Jackson and Norbert Leo Butz are two different types. They wouldn't be put up for the same roles.
What one or two actors are you most like physically?
and I agree with the above poster....just edit the 7 minute monologue. Pick the part you connect with the most.
I’m a character actor. No I’m after finding out it i can’t edit any of the monologue it has to be the complete full one.
What? I've never heard of anyone stating you can't do only a section of a written monologue.

Look at Bobby's monologue in A Chorus Line. The one about growing up in Buffalo.
It can be done in two ways. The way they did it in ACL, very dry humor, where's he's a bit "Upper East Side privileged looking down his nose" or it can be done as schleppy and nerdy (think Seymour in Little Shop Of Horrors).
