Need lotto/rush advice for this weekend quickly!

I know there's been lots of rush posts, but I'm suddenly looking for advice for a friend who's bringing teenagers into NYC this weekend. They haven't seen anything, so at least that part is easy, but I'd hate to see them use discount codes and pay $60 and up if the rush and lottos for shows like Q, Hairspray, Spelling Bee, SA and Rent are eminently do-able. What's their best bet--and thanks in advance for any info anybody can give me....

Rent and Hairspray are fairly empty nowadays. Spelling Bee is not bad. Q isnt too bad either but its only 12 seats so that lowers your chances a lot.

For teenagers, I would try Hairspray...

If it is a big group of teenagers then lotto may not be a good idea. What do you do if not all of you gets picked?

I would recommend student rush. Les Miz, Spring Awakening, Tarzan all have student rushes.

If they're a mature bunch, the Company rush has been starting when the box office opens instead of 2 hours before the show as of late. It's an amazing deal if they're 17 or 18 rather than 15 or 16.

I would recommend Spring Awakening to the teenagers. They have rush, but get there early in order to get enough seats.

Also, you could try Tarzan-- if they are younger teenagers, then this might be a good choice, but if they are 16+, Tarzan would probably bore them.

Color Purple also has general rush, but you have to get there early. It is a great show, and if the teenagers have read the book or saw the movie, they would love the show.

Lotto wise, RENT and Hairspray are empty, so you have a pretty good shot of getting tickets if you just show up! You can't lose with those shows for teenagers.

OT, and sorry to butt in, but does Company do rush on the weekend? on the website, it says "all performances" but other websites such as www.talkinbroadway.com say rush tickets aren't available friday-sunday. also, what do you mean they're starting to open at box office time?
thanks in advance!

They're selling Company rush when the box office now instead of two hours prior to curtain? Sweet!

Are they really? You're kidding me. I was really enjoying not having to wake up early for this one. If that's true, I guess I can't complain, because cheap is cheap.

Vespertine, how did you find that out?

And yes, they do rush for every performance, including weekends.

Some friends rushed for Color Purple on Thurs, and they arrived at 9AM and were the first ones in line. Seems to me that it's relatively easy to get, although weekends are probably more busy.

Company Rush: I did it yesterday, got there at 5PM, ready to wait an hour...but the lady at the box office sold me front row center seats when I approached her, asking her where I should line up for the rush line.

Good luck.
