Also I find Jerry Mitchell to be adorable. And he seems to really know what he is doing.

And I know they changed lyrics to "Take it like a Man" and "Chip On My Shoulder"

I believe the song they are taking about is "Love and War" but I could be wrong. That would make me upset. That song is so fun!

No. WAY.

That, Serious and Bend and Snap were the songs I HATED when I first saw it, but now I love them all.
I don't think I can even pretend to be half-assed about this show anymore. I love it more than I can say.

I think they could shave down (or just take out) "Take It Like A Man" -- that song does nothing for me. We've already got Emmett and Elle in "Chip on My Shoulder", "Legally Blonde", and now this. I feel like "Take It Like A Man" is fun, and it's a great song, but it's my least favorite of the bunch.

On the same note, I love "Blood in the Water", but yes, it could be reduced a bit. And give those damn two-lines for 'Adam Schulz' to Warner or Viv. Those two ought to be utilized a little more, I say.

"Love and War" is the only song I can think of that 'doesn't suit the tone the audience expects.' "Ireland" is too perfect to get rid of.

Yeah, "Love and War" is the song where the tone is being changed. Also curious to see what they're doing with "Chip."

But the video? Meh, they've been better. I don't want to hear an extended interview where Jerry TALKS about what's being done -- I want to SEE what's being done! Singers singing! Dancers dancing! We wants more, precious!

Ireland would be great if Paulette got a big finish. Ending it with the "four inch heels" line is lame.

^ Debbie Downer much?

Yes, it would have been nice to see some singing but the video was not meant for that. It was meant to be about Jerry talking about what ws going on.

You know what the video was "meant" for theaterdude87, like for a fact? It seemed like a big snooze fest to me as well and to concur with Al, it was too self congratulatory for my taste. NY critics and SF critics are worlds apart. No one should be going around patting eachother on the back just yet and that's not being a "debbie downer".

Well the title of the video was "Back to Work with Jerry Mitchell" so what was really expected? I really do not see what the problems were with them patting each other on the backs. I am sure the same thing happens at most shows and we just do not see it. Pirate Queen had videos just like it.

Thats just me.

It sucks to think that it's between Legally Blonde and Pirate Queen for the last "Best Musical" Nom.

Where does your basis for this opinion stem from? PIRATE QUEEN doesn't have a shot in hell at a Best Musical nomination. Not this year. The last Best Musical nomination will be between LEGALLY BLONDE and LOVEMUSIK. The other three nominees will be GREY GARDENS, SPRING AWAKENING, and CURTAINS. If the Nominating Committee is smart, they will select LOVEMUSIK for the final slot, because regardless of how good LEGALLY BLONDE is, if it is nominated for Best Musical, the road voters WILL vote for it and it WILL win -- which, in a year filled with exciting, artistic new musicals, would be a damn shame.

But one thing, Andy Karl, let's talk about that hair.

Andy Karl's hair is gorgeous.

Yes, it would have been nice to see some singing but the video was not meant for that. It was meant to be about Jerry talking about what ws going on.

The video was meant to sell tickets to tourists who recognize the title of the show from the movie and to make Broadway.com $22 per ticket service fees.

It was RentBoy86, definitely here.

I'm not sure Legally Blonde will win if it's nominated - Foster, why is it any different than the Wedding Singer?

theaterdude87, it's the third post in the thread.

shesamarshmallow, Here's the difference between LEGALLY BLONDE and THE WEDDING SINGER:

LEGALLY BLONDE: across the board raves out of town; Jerry Mitchell is attached to it, and of all the musicals he has worked on, the one most similar to LEGALLY BLONDE is HAIRSPRAY, an established hit on Broadway and on tour; and, the movie the show is being adapted from is good and liked.

THE WEDDING SINGER: panned out of town, panned on Broadway; the only somewhat name attached to it was Rob Ashford and he was only the choreographer; the movie it was adapted from was bad and trashy: qualities that do not lend people to spend $110 when they see its name attached.

As much as I love these videos, I do agree that this one seemed designed to sell a little more. But, since they just put up the Richard Blake one last week, I think this one is okay, considering the opening night one was well done and informative and funny. This one was more intending for marketing and that's okay.

And I haven't seen Pirate Queen, but the hype is good for it. I don't think "Legally Blonde" will be a shoo-in if they are nominated, but I do want to see them get the nod, if only for their Tony performance.

I agree 1000% with everything Wannabe wrote. On a lighter note, not only is Andy Karl's hair gorgeous, he's one of the most handsome men we have. Like the song says, "He ought to be in pictures".

Ahaha, so Legally Blonde shouldn't be nominated since it might actually be *gasp* good? I love that logic. :)

It's definitely the most commercial of the possible nominees, but I still think that they'll give it to Spring Awakening - which is commercial in the youthful MTV demographic that Broadway would kill for.
I'm rooting for Grey Gardens, myself.

Oh I forgot about Lovemusik. Jeez Foster, you can be a ****sometimes. Have you seen Lovemusik? It may turn out to be incredibly boring, we don't know. It's hard to say. I already figured SA, Grey Gardens, and Curtains are locks for Best New Musical. And since Legally did so well out-of-town with business and whatnot, then I think it might get the Tony nod. Considering there's no chance in hell that Lovemusik will tour or have a life outside of NYC commercially. It's all speculation. It's not like either of us is right or wrong. And I haven't seen Pirate Queen, but it seems to be doing great business and is an audience favorite, so it might pull in some votes too. I'm sure some of the voters aren't going to be feeling the whole "artistic" vibe of some of the shows and want to vote for something a little bit lighter. And Legally will win if it's the better musical.

Have you seen Lovemusik? It may turn out to be incredibly boring, we don't know. It's hard to say.

I have not seen LOVEMUSIK, but I have seen THE PIRATE QUEEN and have read the reviews for LEGALLY BLONDE, and a show about Kurt Weill and Lotte Lenya featuring Weill's songbook starring two Tony Winners has a heck of a better shot at a Best Musical nomination than THE PIRATE QUEEN, which is just the type of horrendous dreck that Broadway is tired of. This is why I say that the final nomination will be between LOVEMUSIK and the already well-received out of town LEGALLY BLONDE.

And I haven't seen Pirate Queen, but it seems to be doing great business and is an audience favorite, so it might pull in some votes too.

It filled the house to 85% capacity last week, true, but most of the audience members received complimentary tickets, or were extremely discounted. The average ticket price was $57, with a face value ticket price for the orchestra and the entire mezzanine of $110. So the capacity figure means nothing as it is based on freebies. A show will not survive on giving tickets away for free week after week. Let the reviews come out and then see how well the theatre fills and what the average ticket price is. THE PIRATE QUEEN is a very expensive show to keep running.

I'm sure some of the voters aren't going to be feeling the whole "artistic" vibe of some of the shows and want to vote for something a little bit lighter. And Legally will win if it's the better musical.

The voters won't have the opportunity to choose LEGALLY BLONDE for Best Musical if the Nominating Committee does not select it among the nominees. The road voters are the ones who depend on booking touring productions, not the Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee is a group of 25 New York artists who could care less about tourability, and they have the first say.
