Ok, Blonde fans, there's a new video on the going blonde section at broadway.com.

Can't wait for the show to open and i wish it lots of success!

Ok. I'm so excited. so i wonder what songs Jerry was talking about changing? I'm guessing maybe "Blood in the Water" and "There! Right there!"?
And he kind of talked about how "Chip On Your Shoulder" has been changed too, so i'm interested to see what happens.
Oh, and how funny was the story about Laura Bell throwing the shoe! I love her. You know i have to say i love how upbeat and committed the cast seems to be and that just proves it.
And I'm glad the buzz seems to be good and thats leaving the cast with high spirits. We'll see what happens!
AH. and Laura sounds fantastic on that random LB clip at the end.

So to not make you feel weird that you're having a convo with yourself...I'm happy for the cast. I hope the show does well. It sucks to think that it's between Legally Blonde and Pirate Queen for the last "Best Musical" Nom. They're two different shows. And I'm gonna guess that the song they were thinking about changing is "Ireland." I haven't seen the show but I saw a few clips on the FORBIDDENT SITE and it seemed like that song kind of came out of nowhere.
But one thing, Andy Karl, let's talk about that hair.

I adore Jerry Mitchell. He is so funny and knows what he is talking about. He seems so down to earth. Also, the fact that he can jump rope like that...so impressive.

They should cut down "Chip on Your Shoulder" to 5 minutes instead of 12, and bring the verses closer together instead of so spared out. It just drags out something that could be setup easily. Emmett showing Elle, "Everytime Warner is around, you purposely get dumber. Wise up, girl!"
I think "Ireland" gets laughs. It's Paulette's "I AM/I WANT" song. They'll keep it.
They'll probably cut one less reprise of "Omigod". I heard somewhere they brought "Legally Blonde" back to a ballad instead of a duet/scene and it flowed better. "Blood in the Water" might be rewritten or a new song might come in. They've gotta have better material to establish Callahan. Come on.

Posted: 3/14/07 at 7:03pmI liked "Legally Blonde" as it was, but I'm glad that they might be making it back to a solo. After "So Much Better" I kept waiting for Laura's big defining number and it never really came so i hope this becomes it.

Posted: 3/14/07 at 7:05pm"Ireland" isn't going anywhere. It's the one song both audiences and critics alike favored. "Chip" and "Blood" could stand a great deal of trimming and/or complete overhauls. The problem I have with this latest video, it feels like a hard sell. Imo, it's comes across as one big ad saying what a winner it is. If the show is that great and people feel so "great" about it, quit cramming the point down everyones throat and let it be an organic discovery on the east coast. And sorry, but there's really no "message", unless I completely missed it each time I saw it.

Posted: 3/14/07 at 7:16pmAl Dente the only reason you feel "Ireland" won't be cut is because Orfeh is in it.

Posted: 3/14/07 at 7:36pmActually theaterdude, the "only" reason I'm saying that is because I can read and my hearing is good and I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that the people involved with the show have those physical properties intact as well. Nuff' said.

Posted: 3/14/07 at 7:38pmI don't dought that Paulette needs an "I am/I want" song, but I just find "Ireland" really boring...

Posted: 3/14/07 at 7:45pmLook, I found a great deal of ACT1 "boring", with Ireland actually being the first time the audience really started laughing, or as you kids like to say, "lol-ing". It makes absolutely no difference to me what or who's song gets cut or not, my money isn't in the show, I simply think there are other numbers worth revisiting and as I said, I read the reviews and heard the crowd reactions to Ireland more than once. I'd say the same thing no matter what actress was singing the song *if* it was received the same way.

Can someone, anyone, tell me what the heck is an "I am/I want" song anyway and who cares? Oh and Al, you should know by now how insane and full of speculation(and other things) the posters here are. And most of the time, they're never right. And yes, I include myself as a guilty party.
*edit for spelling.

Omigod. I'm so glad I saw Chip on Your Shoulder 3 times and therefore have it imprinted in my memory - I had a feeling they'd make it shorter. They change that but they're keeping the bathroom scene???
Jerry Mitchell doing the Whipped Into Shape choreo was crazy impressive.
The shoe thing was way cute. Made her jump at the end of So Much Better so much better.
Hal, how is it selling? Inquiring minds wanna know!!!

What the heck is an "I AM/I WANT" song?
Well... check back on your "Great Big Stuff".
http://www.musicals101.com/1950bway3.htm
Scroll down to Bob Fosse.
"Fosse said that from a director's point of view there were only three types of show songs –
I Am songs – Any song that explains a character, a group of characters, or a situation.
I Want songs – These tell us what characters desire, what motivates them. Most love songs fit into this category.
New songs – This includes any number that does not fit the other two categories, usually because they serve special dramatic needs."
Paulette, as well as all of the supporting and leading characters need an "I AM" or "I WANT" song to establish themselves to the audience. Elle has a verse in "Omigod, you guys" that establishes she wants to be wed to Warner. We get what Emmett and Paulette value in "Chip on Your Shoulder" and "Ireland." Even Warner has "Serious" to an extent.

Ruprecht..
I'm rather shocked that the term was foreign to you give the amount of theater you've seen or come across as having seen.
It's a very theater 101 term... Were you being sarcastic?

Posted: 3/14/07 at 9:23pmHence the :). Seriously, it was just amusing how many times the term was thrown around. You of all people, should know sarcasm, you run this board!

Posted: 3/14/07 at 10:51pmI just felt like a mid-tempo song would suit Paulette better and give Orfeh a chance to belt it out, or use her legit voice. I just thought it could use a little "oof" to make it something a little more.

OK, is it just me, or is Jerry Mitchell insanely hot? That salt and pepper hair makes me crazy. I could do without the soul patch, though...

I don't want Orfeh to lose a song but I do wish they would replace "Ireland" with something better. She needs a song where she can really sing, because her voice is off the hoook.
