Maybe she is a bit too old for it now but I wish Audra McDonald would do Eliza.
Don't let it be forgotten that Higgins is supposed to be played by a mature actor. That's precisely the charm of the role. He's certainly not elderly, but he needs to be a seasoned, wise, extravagant, and aged man. The script even says he's old enough to be Eliza's father.
The Patrick Stewart suggestion is a wonderful idea. He really would embody the character.
What's fascinating about this production, though, is its ending. While I love the notion that Eliza and Higgins really do have deep feelings for each other under it all, this revival leaves you with the idea that those deep feelings are less romantic and more of a father/daughter care for one another and that's simply smashing!

A beautiful, beautiful production. Loved the set, lights and costumes when I saw it at the Drury Lane.
I second the motion for Audra as Liza? I recently saw a stunning production of Pygmalion with an African-American actress. The lower class in 19th century London had a variety of hues.

I would love to see
Kesley Grammer as Professor Henrey Higgins
Christy Carlson Romano as Eliza Doolittle
(I think they would cast two big time stars as Higgins and Eliza)
also...
Jeff Keller as Conlnel Pickering
John Cudia as Freddy Enysford-Hill
Rosemary Ashe as Mrs. Higgins
Julia Sutton as Mrs. Perce
David Haig as Alfred. P .Doolittle

Joanna Riding was my Eliza when I saw this a few years ago. Glad to hear that it will finally be making it to our shores...
Joanna Riding was fantastic as Eliza. Christy Carlson Romano couldn't sing it. Someone like Emmy Rossum might be interesting. And Audra McDonald is a goddess and she's said she'd love to do the role. Hopefully this production will be an equity Broadway bound production unlike the recent tour of Cameron's production of OLVIER!

I saw Joanna Riding and loved her... truely amazing performance!
Joanna Riding played it with sass. I loved her laugh at the end as the curtain came down....
Its truly a shame that Joanna Riding hasn't done a show in NYC yet. She was also just extraordinary as Julie Jordan in CAROUSEL at the RNT.

The bit that got me was "I Could Have Dance All Night" she threw everything into and it was spell binding to watch. Also when she was doing the H's... breathing into that flame thing... she did the cheekiest laugh i've ever heard lol. Absoloutely brilliant... she should play Eliza in USA!

"Lady" is the first show this fall here in the Rochester Theatre League and thre have been no leads announced. Does anyone have an idea of who will be touring the show here?
I would squee to see AUdra as Eliza. She looks a bit younger than her age, but obviously still older than the character...I don't really care. If she was doing this when she was 50, I'd still be as thrilled.
Tim Curry would be a GREAT Henry Higgins!!! Even though Anthony Warlow(who has played Higgins 3 times before would be the true dream cast Higgins)
But Warlow has said that he would never do a show in the States.
