I think it is better than the original.

I agree. The original is sometimes annoying to listen to.

I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&. "Jayne just sat there while Gina flailed around the stage like an idiot."

I never listen to the original. Once was enough. I used to split my time between the European tour cast recording and the Actor's Fund CD. I still think the tour had better vocal arrangements and better orchestrations in some places than this revival does.

The ONLY song on the recording that there's another version I like better is My Conviction, and that's only because I just heard Adam Lambert's version of it from the European Tour recording, and he's brilliant re: New Broadway Cast Recording - Hair

But yeah, other than that, New Broadway Recording >>>>> any other Hair recording for me :) I'm so addicted to it.

The orchestrations are fantastic, but I just also adore EVERY single one of the voices from this cast. It's not just that they can sing, but they all just have really BEAUTIFUL and cool voices. Gavin has one of my favorite voices ever, legit. I think Caissie's voice is crazy awesome. And yeah, every single one of them! Just REALLY gorgeous voices. So that definitely is part of what makes it so enjoyable for me. But it's also just a great quality recording!

I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

Yeah, Adam's "My Conviction" puts Andrew Kober's rendition to shame.

I'm such a big fan of Hair and I'm sure that in performance, this production is stunning, but the cast recording has not moved me like I'd hoped it would. The OBC is still the best by a mile, even with it's imperfections.

I'm from London and not yet seen this production- but after downloading the recording from itunes i think its brilliant- and from the sound of what I've heard it can't even compete with seeing it live. I neeeeeed to get to New York and see this show!

I love this recording!!! the voices are so pure and strong and clear. I actually feel its alittle over produced. Though I didn't like the vocal damage on the OBC I did love its rawness and you could really feel the vibe of Hair come through. This, though it sounds really pretty and is great vocally, its a bit too pretty and produced for my liking but I still love it! Can't wait to see it live! (and be in it this summer!!!)

I've been a fan of the show for eons and, while I love this recording, I also agree that it's not without its flaws. I agree with the few who noted it felt a bit flat/canned in places. I'm sure it's a personal preference issue, but I wish this album had been produced with a pop-rock mentality and not treated (at least as far as mixing goes) like a simple show recording. It's a crisp, almost sterile mix that seems to be missing the warmer, cohesive wall-of-sound (when appropriate) sound that a rock album has. Just my opinion...

Favorite moments:
~ Donna (dig the arrangement and love Will)
~ Air (Kacie is just fantastic)
~ Hair
~ Easy To Be Hard
~ Hare Krishna (love the additional section)
~ Three Five Zero Zero
~ What a Piece of Work Is Man
~ Flesh Failures/Eyes Look Your Last/Let the Sun Shine In
~ Gavin Creel's voice... Magic...

Annoyances:
~ Manchester, England (usually such fun, but sounds like a fluffy piece of filler here)
~ Colored Spade (not a fan of his voice at all)
~ Where Do I Go (while love Gavon's voice, there is no real emotion or depth in the recording of the track... Pretty, but dull... The song shouldn't be dull, nor should it simply be pretty)
~ Walking in Space (why is Sasha screaming and growling???)
~ I dig some of the arrangements and can see that the show is, musically, a hybrid of the original and the film, regarding arrangements... But I would like to have heard something that sounded as though it was clearly ripped from 1967.

All in all, though, I really do enjoy the album.

I already have two recordings of Hair and wasn't planning on buying this one, especially since I haven't even seen this production yet. But after watching the behind-the-scenes video on Broadway.com, I broke down and pre-ordered it from Sh-K-Boom.

Hopefully it's worth it (although I love Gavin Creel's voice, so all won't be lost if I dislike it).
