nice production history there, with thumbnails of old posters.
plus, the news of a Miss Saigon HighSchool edition coming out soon. how weird and uncalled for.

i believe Miss Saigon is not a show most highschoolers are able to do justice to. specifically in roles like Kim and the engineer.

A local high school is putting on this year. The thought of it makes me cry.
I think kids would have a lot of fun with it because it's so dramatic and popera-ish. Don't they usually edit and cut the kid editions anyway?
The school editions have never been about justice. They're about one thing and one thing only: money. the end.
Again, as a former high school director, I can't believe people send kids home to say, "Mom! I'm a prostitute in the school play!"

I saw a local high school perform the show a few months ago and it was amazing, especially Kim and Chris. It was unbelievable what they were able to do. Even the helicopter was so well-done. It was the first high school to perform the show in CT. His name escapes me, but the guy who wrote the lyrics to the show was at the performance I was at and he seemed very pleased and amazed at what they had done.

^ Were you/your friends in the show?
No, I was not in the show, but I was childhood friends with the guy who played John's brother, so I new him growing up. I also came to know one of the musical directors this summer while working with him teaching Music and Drama at a summer camp.
I was in a production of Miss Saigon at my high school last year as The Engineer and many people had nothing but raves for it.
I was in the pilot version of the school edition at Stagedoor Manor in 05' and we were lucky enough to workshop with Richard Maltby Jr. and it was an amazing experience...and in my opinion we did great justice to the material. And how dare you say that someone couldnt handle a character just because their age. If they understand the material and the emotions behind it, they have the ability to put as much feeling into the role as an adult.
It's also a very hard show to do because of the requirement of so many Asian performers.
Then Lowell HS should do it. ;)

HAHAHAHA. I graduated from Lowell HS a few years ago, and they would not have trouble finding Asians to cast. The school population is 50% Asian.
They did do a production of Miss Saigon this past school year. Me and a friend were going to check it out just to see what the hell they were going to do about the helicoptor, but we never got around to it.
