Makes me appreciate all the details and complexity of the original designs.
After seeing the rest of these photos, it looks like they ran out of money.
And they're not re-imagined at all, or even simplified, so much as dumbed down.
An "Equity Waiver" Cats.
EDIT: I'm all for re-imagining a show like "Cats." But that means re-imagination, not the same exact thing with less money. Change the concept of the designs. THAT's re-imagination.
Maybe the cats all look like toys or figurines on a shelf or in playroom box. Maybe the cats all look like children's illustrations from books. Maybe they're all in black-and-white like impressionistic pencil drawings, with only minor touches of color for impact.
Maybe they are Grand Kabuki style, or like circus clowns, or maybe they have stage puppet counterparts to each of them.
Those are all "re-imagined" concepts.
Not less makeup lines and cheaper costumes, based on the originals.
