Posted: 4/17/05 at 8:24pmI'm not a big fan of creating a stage version of animated Disney movies. What happened to originality? Everyone made SUCH a big deal (and still do) about The Lion King...I finally saw it last year and was very unimpressed. Okay, I give them an A for the set design, lighting, and puppet work....but I thought after awhile it was so boring! Only one really standout performance, and that was "Endless Night". I would rather see almost ANY other show over LK. I'm a big Disney fan, but just not on stage...Disney should do more like "Aida"..I like more originality in musicals. Anyone else feel this way?

Posted: 4/17/05 at 9:19pmThe clip was from a show called Animazment at Disneyland. It was a very cute show and that was my favorite part of it. I saw Eden in the show in 1998 and had to have a good video of her because I thought she was amazing. After that, I recorded every show I saw her in until she moved to NYC.

I've seen Alladin, at Disney's California Adventure in California... its okay. The story doesnt transfer well onto the stage. Myabe it has to do with the fact that its a show meant to go on 6 times a day, but technically it falls flat. Its not as... energetic than the film, and that disspoints. I've sene it at least 4 times, and every time it's the same. The disney musical in Anaheim that to me is just incredibly cool is Snow White- the Musical, playing at Disneyland in an outside amphitheater. Technically it reaks a mix of into the woods and beauty and the beast, and the way it's done is very cool. The ensmeble of animals in it are a little... experimental, but its a great show that trasnfers very very well onto the stage!
Personally, I think that Snow White would do very well as a replacement for Beauty and the Beast. For something new and original, how about Fantasia? Maybe add some songs with vocals, and make it more of a revue. It could include songs from disney movies, like maybe a symphonic suite from Peter Pan with actors acting out moments from the movie. New music could be written by the usual disney writers, or music from disney rides could be used. Could go into many interestiung directions.

Posted: 4/17/05 at 9:34pmI am not a huge fan of the Disneyland version of Snow White mainly because of the storyline and odd use of the animals. I do however, love the way the music translated to the stage and how they represented the dwarfs.

Posted: 4/18/05 at 2:14amI think I saw Eden in that show at Disneyland. WOW! After the clip I would love to see Hercules on stage also. I saw the short Aladdin in California Adventure and I just don't know if I liked it enough to see it go to Broadway, It had potential and I think it is a good expermental step to try things out for a Broadway show of it.

I think that Mulan and Hercules would rock; though I'm kinda diggin' the idea of Pocahontas...I'd love to see Mulan; would be a wonderful show for Asian performers. There was Miss Saigon for so long, then King and I was around, then Flower Drum Song. There isn't anything specifically for Asians right now; c'mon get Mulan on here! I'm stoked to see Matthew Morrison as Tarzan though

Am I the only one here thinking we're missing a great opportunity with NEWSIES? The show would have to be completely restructured. A new book is desperately needed. But the music that is there is amazing. Beef it up with more music. Really explore some of the political life and present it highly theatrically. I mean unit sets of steel scaffolding and projections of period photos of strikes. The whole nine yards. It would take a director with alot of visiion who can revisiualize it as a piece of theatre and not a fancy disney musical.
On the other hand, I love the idea of a stage production of Fantasia. Perhaps some sort of mix of ballet, symphony, and modern dance.

Posted: 5/17/05 at 6:54pmIs it just me or did Eden look a little awkward in the clip? Amazing voice and I am a huge fan but she kinda LOOKED (not sounded) amature-ish. I vote for Sara!

I would really like to see the Hunchback. I think that this would be an amazing show all around! Quazzi could be played by Creel or Butz and be huge! As for Esmerelda, Ramirez or Espinosa could be great! Pocohantas I would also like to see. Eden sounded amazing in those clips! She gave me chills! Sara could also be a possibility but, my vote would have to go towards Eden.

I'm really excited about the Little Mermaid. It sounds quite good. I loved the movie, and its music. Its something that I would see if I was given the chance.
As far Tarzan... I wouldn't see that. It wasn't the best movie. I mean, I kinda liked the music actually, but the movie itself didn't do so much for me.
As for Hunchback- hellz yes! "God Help the Outcasts" would be BEAUTIFUL (looking back on my fascination with that song when I was little kinda makes me feel like I was destined to fall in love with Les Miz, which got me into theatre. And then all the swirling colors and dancing gargoyles... it could be great.
And Pocahantas w/Sara Ramirez would also be great. Mulan, Aladdin, ditto.
ANYTHING BUT TARZAN! LOL.

I think I mentioned Anastasia somewhere. Or I've mentioned it several times on other threads.
I think the Nightmare Before Christmas would be amazing. But it'd be hard to find someone lanky enough to play Jack. And the whole dead thing and all...but it'd be so cool!
Hercules: I would die to see on-stage. The Muses would be so a-muse-ing to watch (sorry, couldn't resist
). They'd be like the Urchins of LSOH. But Hercules would make an easy transition.
