Posted: 4/17/05 at 4:47pmI guess I could see a Broadway Pocahontas, but I just really did not like the movie that much, and there is MUCH better music is the realm of Disney, in my opinion. I would love to see Aladdin, which I think would work really well. My all time favorite Disney musical is probably Hercules, and that would be really tricky, but I would kill to see that on stage.

i have to put in a vote for Aladdin too.
and FOAnatic, i just listened to the clip of Sara and she absolutely beats out Eden as my choice for pocahontas though Eden was who came to my mind first.

Sara Ramirez as Pocahontas, hands down. There is no debate.
This COULD be due to the fact that I just saw her at Spamalot last night... but man. It's just perfect.
I want to see Aladdin, by the way.

Posted: 4/17/05 at 5:05pmI'd love to see Mulan, personally. There's great potential already: lots of dance (battles), great music, and its a role that can get Lea back to Broadway!

for those of you that want an aladdin musical, you may already know that there is a short version of the show at disneyland in califonia adventure. this website has alot of photos and a video of the show for those of you who care. its not that greatest show ever, but its definetley entertaining for a theme park show.

I think HUNCHBACK would totally be amazing. Its always been one of my favorite movies.... It has a nice mix of everything. Theres some funny, lighthearted stuff with the gargoyles and TOPSY TURVY... and then some heavy major drama in both the beginning and the end. I think sets and overall design could be beyond amazing... MGM in florida has a little hunchback show and its actually very good.... they make use of everything rather well. Anyway... Hunchback is my vote....
And about POPPINS, someone mentioned they didnt like that they gave it a dark side.... The original book had a dark side to it. There are actually two different versions of the book that have different versions of a story called BAD TUESDAY or something. one has a polar bear and a parrot trying to eat the kids and the other version was scary eskimos and indians or something if i remember correctly. So the "dark side" comes from the original source material....

- Little Mermaid!!!!!
- Hunckback
- And I agree about a Mary Poppins musical based on the movie. I did enjoy the West End musical and love the cast recording (except Temper Temper) but I would have liked a show more similar to the movie.

I can't believe they're actually talking about "Tarzan" - sorry, but that is one of my least favorite Disney movies, and it is NOT a musical!
They should absolutely do Hunchback - and they should take advantage of the opportunity to improve on the movie; for a start, either drop or radically rethink the Gargoyles. I'd rather keep a happy ending, don't do the "kill everyone off" thing, but don't be afraid of the darkness, emotion, etc. I'm biased, because I'm a big HoND fan from way back, and it was the HoND fandom that dragged me into my netlife, but this is absolutely tailor-made for a big stage production.

Posted: 4/17/05 at 6:29pmI've the books to poppins, but i also have the book that was adapted for the film, which i really don't care for the book after its all hollywoodized, but this is a rare exception. That movie was "practically perfect"

Posted: 4/17/05 at 6:41pmSadly, the "Hunchback" show at Disney/MGM is no more. I saw it there in '99 though, and really enjoyed it. Our Quasi was excellent.

Posted: 4/17/05 at 6:49pmIn case you guys don't know about it, there already has been a stage version of Hunchback. It played in Berlin, and was directed by James Lapine. It's called "Der Glöckner Von Notre Dame" and the CD, if you can find it, is sensational. I pray someday this finds its way to Broadway.

Eden as Pocahontas. I saw her live..she was amazing...Here is the clip I used in my article about Eden Espinosa. One of many I have of her performing at Disneyland.

Posted: 4/17/05 at 7:10pmEden also sings that role beautifully, but ever since someone I know at NYU did an interview with her and she said that she considers her own dialogue in shows to be her break time, I've lost respect for her as an actress, but she is a brilliant singer.

Posted: 4/17/05 at 7:14pmI'd love to see Pocahontas as a musical. That would be so amazing and incredible. I saw the short musical version of Aladdin at Disneyland and I love it! I'd really like to see a Broadway version of Aladdin. My mom's coworker's daughter is one of the Princess Jasmines who sings in it. Hehehe. And the Little Mermaid! Yay!
