This morning, it was revealed that the majority of the pre-shutdown cast members from Disney's "Aladdin" and "The Lion King" would be returning to Broadway, with some new principals joining as well.
For "The Lion King," Brandon A. McCall will take over as Simba, having previously played the role on tour across North America. He replaces Bradley Gibson, who had been with the show since 2018.
In addition, four new kids will be taking over the roles of Young Simba and Young Nala.
For "Aladdin," Michael Maliakel (in his Broadway debut) and Shoba Narayan will take over as Aladdin and Jasmine. This now means "Wicked" will have a new Nessarose upon reopening; given the flood of casting announcements in recent days, they could likely make an announcement really soon.
Zach Bengal will also be taking over for Babkak, replacing Brian Gonzales, who had been with "Aladdin" for the entirety of its Broadway run before the shutdown.
As previously announced, "The Lion King" will reopen on September 14, and "Aladdin" will follow on September 28.
