Disney has announced a 2-disc Mary Poppins: 40th Anniversary Special Edition for release on 12/14 (SRP $29.99). The film will be presented in 1.66:1 anamorphic widescreen. Extras will include the never-before-heard deleted song Chimpanzoo, a 50-minute behind-the-scenes documentary, new interviews, an interactive game, a new animated short based on an original P.L. Travers story, and the first ever reunion of Dick Van Dyke, Julie Andrews and co-composer Richard Sherman (the trio also provides audio commentary for the film). Nice.

great news, too bad I purchased the single disc one.
I also heard that Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke are re-creating a cut song from the film for the DVD.
Been looking forward to this one for a LONG time. Let's see if I can find the cover art from two months ago...

Now, if only Disney could find "A Step in the Right Direction" from Bedknobs and Broomsticks. It's in the Overture, it's in the underscoring when Lansbury first flies on her broom... but where is the footage?!?!
Whe giving a talk last year at the directors guild. Angela Lansbury shrugged off a question about Bedknobs and said " lets talk about something else, shall we?"
Too bad. The restored version of B&B is fun and makes a lot more sense than the cut version.

Did Angie not like BEDKNOBS?
Mary Poppins can do more tour en l'air than Baryshnikov!
Disney wants to do a Bedknobs & Broomsticks Special Edition DVD - this was in 2000.
I read Lansbury wouldn't do commentary for the film.
Hmmm. Mary Poppins? Is this a good one? I've never seen it...
Don't worry, they made me turn in my Gay Card AGES ago...
Good one? Nominated for Oscars, considered one of Walt Disney's best work, considered one of Julie Andrews' best work, JULIE ANDREWS IS IN IT!, the film saved the Walt Disney company, JULIE ANDREWS IS IN IT, and oh! - JULIE ANDREWS IS IN IT.
...Yeah, it's OK.
Seriously? You were allowed to grow up and not watch it?
I led a very sheltered life...No Mary Poppins, no Bedknobs and Broomsticks, nada...I didn't even see "The Sound of Music" until I turned 18...just 3 short years ago...
If you have a Blockbuster or video rental store - go to it and rent this film.
Normally, I would tell you to buy it, but you have my permission to wait for this DVD release in December.
A lot of people don't know this, but there is actually an 11th Commandment - "Thou shalt go and see MARY POPPINS by ye 5th birthday."
You don't want to make God even more angry, now, do you?
