I'm kind of like Lupone in that if something truly awful happened to me, any mention of it or memory would send me "back" and thus ranting would ensue.
I don't think she *thinks* like a 'star.' Or thinks of herself that way. When she doesn't get a part, I think it's Lupone feeling disappointed that she didn't get the part and not Lupone, the DIVA, feeling outraged she didn't get what she wants, as people assume.
I don't think there's anything strange about still mentioning past hurtful experiences. I don't know of anyone who lets go of things without some closure. And it certainly seems those things she brings up time and time again are brought up because she doesn't feel they've been resolved. It's a better attitude than pretending they never happened and moving on via denial. You go Patti.
