New Plays Opening Soon

I'm making a trip to NYC in a few weeks and had a question for the play-lovers on this board! I've already seen Curious Incident, so I'm looking into a few other plays to see while I'm in the city. I will most likely only go see 1 or 2 plays as the rest of my time will be seeing musicals. What are people most excited for opening in the next few weeks both on and off-Broadway? Here are the ones I'm debating between...'Old Times', 'Sylvia', 'The Gin Game', 'Therese Raquin', 'Eclipsed', and 'King Charles III.' I know this is a personal taste question based on preferences/likes, but any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Old Times. 70 minutes of utter boredom .Totally incomprehensible.

Gin Game - 2 old people playing cards. Competent but not electric

Seeing Terese Raquin - Seeing it next week. Thou Shalt Not was the

Musical version of it if that helps.

Still recovering from the 70 minute bore Old Times. It's been over a week and I still can't keep my eyes open.

The Gin Game----the opportunity to see James Earl Jones and Cicely Tyson, two legends, live on stage, should not be missed

OKBroadwayFan-you're right. The Gin Game with those two is a once-in-a-lifetime kinda play. That one is moving up my list! :)

I saw King Charles III in London (where it won the Olivier Award) and I found it quite excellent. BUT, it is written and performed as a Shakespeare History Play - so, it's in verse and highly stylilzed. It does not require intimate knowledge of the current Royal Family - as the Royal Family in the play are characters - not the real people. But, some basic knowledge of Charles, Diana, Camilla, William, Kate and Harry is helpful. It is definitely not for everyone. But, much of the primary cast is the London cast. Of those: Tim Pigott-Smith as Charles was very memorable and Lydia Wilson's Kate was terrific. .

Thanks for asking the question, and for all of the replies. I am going to be in NY the week of Oct. 19th and the responses have been very helpful. Will be curious about SYLVIA and THERESE RAQUIN and off-Broadway, THE HUMANS. I did not know KING CHARLES was in verse, hmm. That gives pause.

I don't think I've seen any plays that will still be open in a few weeks besides The New Morality. I did enjoy that play but I know it won't be for everyone. It's kind of good to go in with no expectations aside from knowing about all the intermissions (it helps to be prepared for that). If you do go in casually, I think you'll be charmed.

I'm also seeing Therese Raquin but I have no opinion on it. I'm curious about what it'll be like as all the promo materials do not feature any period costumes. I think King Charles III also sounds interesting.

Well, I may have overstated, King Charles III is in free verse - it's not a series of rhymes throughout. It's meant to be a Shakespeare History Play - in style and cadence. Whether it succeeds in that endeavor is a personal judgment call.
