Adamgreer's post questioning Quast's range was seemingly a response to mcphan19's suggestions of Mann, Quast, and McCarthy as Javert, hence my response.

If anyone wants to get a little "taste" of Michael Ball as JVJ check your local PBS listings this month. There is a three part special running about Windsor Castle. Part one covers the State Dinner for Jacques Chirac that was held in November 2004 and included the special command performance of Les Mis in which Michael sang the role of JVJ. You get snippets of him in costume and singing "Who Am I"...also a brief (very brief)interview.

I'd like to see Mark McVey come back as Valjean. He can hit the high notes...his "Bring Him Home" was unbelievable.

Why are so many people saying Michael Cerveris? He doesn't have the voice. Granted he's absolutely phenomenal in Sweeny he really is not the character type of Valjean at all. Nor can he vocally hold his own in that role. My vote is for some one new all together. Would bring new life to the show. Either way I can't wait to see it.

The only problem with someone new is that Valjean would typically be played by someone 40 or over. Anyone in that age range would be known in theatre and would probably have had a show at the role already.

If you want someone new to play Eliza Doolittle, no problem. Someone new to play Colonel Pickering, not so easy.

I think they should cast new people - meaning ones who haven't played the roles on Broadway before.

Why do people keep suggesting menopausal Fantines? When she dies, she has an 8 year old daughter. She really shouldn't look over 30.

John Owen Jones as Valjean. His Bring me Home in London last year when I saw it brought tears to my eyes. He is just magic.

On another note, Brian Stokes Mitchell as Javert would be AMAZING! I love that guy :)
