So some of you Toronto people may be familiar with Dancap Productions, they have produced 3 musicals with CanStage and they are a producing partner on The Wedding Singer on Broadway. For the last year or so they have been gradually building up their company in order to begin competing on a 'Mirvish' scale in Toronto. Jersey Boys is their rumoured interest.
It was previously reported that they wanted an exclusive deal with The Toronto Centre for the Performing Arts (a similar deal like Livent had when it was the Ford Centre) but that fell though.
Anyways Dancap's new office is at 5000 Yonge Street which is steps away from The Toronto Centre for the Performing Arts. An announcement on their first major project is expected shortly.
Anyone have any insider info?

Well whatever show they choose (and hopefully it is a good one), I wish them the best of luck. This city needs some good competition so the Mirvish's don't get too lazy and not feel the need to bring in a quality season.

My question is why is nobody in Canada talking about a Canadian Drowsy Company. Throw in some great Stratford actors (Cynthia Dale, Seanna McKenna, Brice Dow, Michael Therriault, although he is busy, etc.) and surely a bonafide hit is on their hands. And it had so much buzz all over Canada around Tony time that normally theatre-ignorant people knew what it was. That's gotta be good for selling tickets to tourists.

lightguy, people know that the Panasonic is empty. The comment you're replying to was from last fall. The inside info from DanCap has been floating through the Toronto theatre community for weeks. Invitations have gone out for the official announcement.

How big is the Panasonic? I've walked past there a bunch of times while I was on my way to Buddies.
