Really?
SCHIKANEDER
That rolls off the tongue.
I read what it is about and I am a bit at a loss as to what to think...
Well since it's in German I think the title is the least of our concerns.
So he has time... with Houdini (this must be cancelled by now), Monkeys of Mumbai movie and the never-coming-to-Broadway Hunchback and lastly the Wicked movie...Will we ever see any of these projects?
In the article they state the libretto will be in German but what about the lyrics? Are we to assume that Schwartz will complete the score, words and all, in English and then have a German translator take care of the lyrics for Vienna? I'm assuming that's how it worked for the Ahrens Flaherty Rocky...
Yes Someone, that's how he did Hunchback and My Fairytale.
So an expanded Amadeus? The article just lists them as producers, is BWW aware of who Schikaneder actually was?

With subtitles I wouldn't necessarily mind it if it were good ...though in German it might be a seriously difficult sell on Broadway.
I really enjoy the musical Notre Dame de Paris and that is in French. Then again...I watch it at home with the subtitles on. Now that I am familiar with it I would see it on stage live in French even though I would only be recalling the lyrics from memory.

In this BWW interview of Jack O'Brien, the Houdini director confirms that the show is moving along - with Stephen Schwartz writing the music, David Ives writing the book, David Rockwell handling production design ... and Hugh Jackman still attached to the show. The show is expected to do a tryout in autumn 2014 and a spring 2015 Broadway opening.
Stephen Schwartz will have his hands full - unless the musical score for Houdini is completed by year's end or early 2014, comfortably in time for the autumn tryout and will only need more tweaking afterwards.
Has David Ives finished writing the book for Sondheim's new musical?
David Ives does so damn much.
