It looks like Andrew Lloyd Webber may be taking a trip across the pond to do some sort of show here.
Interesting. Go, go, go, Joseph. :)

"The thought of spending three months in the U.S. is not necessarily what I want at my age,” the 59-year-old told the London Daily Mail."
Of course not. You might get a tan on your pasty skin.

Actually I was just talking about ALW, but if the shoe fits...

Yeah, every time I see Webber I kinda' shudder. But that's no reason to assume he's not a master of musical theater, is it?
(and since sarcasm can't be detected in a written message)
Haaaaaa....
But seriously, my opinion: Webber can be good sometimes - his work just seems too much like a cartoon at times (ASPECTS OF LOVE was so ludicrous that you just have to look away...)

He is a master of the musical theatre world, and I will say it until the day I die . . . so suck it!

He is the master of ripping off classical music (and borrowing from his other musicals) and turning it into musical theatre.

Posted: 7/10/07 at 6:17pmPsst . . . so does/did other composers. If you listen to enough Rodgers and Hammerstein, you hear bits and pieces from their other musicals thrown in there. And who cares? If it is his music, he can do whatever the hell he wants with it.

Maybe Puccini didn't want his music turned into Phantom of the Opera.

Posted: 7/10/07 at 6:22pmOne example . . . ONE!!!!! I highly doubt he is the first composer to take someone elses music and warp it around to make it his own. I am not saying that it is a good thing to do, but he can not be the only one.

He may not be the first or last composer to steal work from another major (and a trillion times better) composer, but it still doesn't make his music genuine or compelling or original.
Plus, he is just so obnoxious and comes off as arrogant and full of himself.
I wish it was him retiring instead of Angela Lansbury.

And may I list those he has stolen from to prove your point.
Bach, Puccini, Frank Loesser, Frederick Loewe, hell, even The Beatles!
The man cannot craft a good piece of music not stolen from someone with more talent than he for his life. Even in Evita, which was saved by Hal Prince.

This is what we have to choose from?
I pick C.
I don't want Andy nurturing me. Creepy.
