Have a great time. I always go into the city myself and have a good time. Like everyone else said just be aware of your surrounding and IMO try not to look like a tourist(Having a camera around your neck,map or NYC book in your hand,etc...)plus it helps that I'm a 5'10" female that always looks angry at something...LOL. Have a plan everyday of what you wanna do or see and go from there. All I do is write down what subways or buses(If any) I need to take where I am going on LiL note cards that are easy to read and small enough that not everyone knows what you are reading.

It is my first time technically. i was to young to remember last time. i was thinking about checking out the circle on the square. im looking for a MT program but i feel a BFA would be best but i would love to go to school in the city......except ithaca and NYU and such are far out of my price range...and im not into amda(not that theres anything wrong with it).

when you guys say tkts gives cheap tickets..what exactly does that mean? twenty,fourty,sixty? we do this thing in ontario where we show a student card and tickets to nat'l tours are only five dollars. its amazing.

i mostly will be going to and from times square area to the east villiage (14th street i beleive my hostel is on)

whatever subway that is.

i get into penn station at six thirty and have to go and drop my stuff off at the hostel then explore. i dont think i could make it to a show? what do you guys think.

and i just realized i can g out to bars here cause im nineteen but the age is 21 in the states ahhhhh

TKTS sells tickets anywhere from 25% to 50% off the face value. I'm not sure if it's true for all shows, but every time I've been there, they only sell the orchestra seats for Broadway shows. So that's up to $60 off. However, you can't pick and choose. You have to take whatever seats they give you, and that means it could be a partial-view.

I've scored a lot of pretty good deals for off-Broadway shows there, but for Broadway shows, I prefer to use student rush and discount codes.

I forgot to mention, Thursdays in Bryant Park from July-August will feature performances from select Broadway and off-Broadway musicals. Usually about 4 shows perform each Thursday. Check out http://www.bryantpark.org and click on "Broadway in Bryant Park." It's not something you have to get there super early to see. You can get there after it starts and still find an area on the lawn to sit and have a good view (it just might be hard finding an empty seat though, but the lawn is huge). If it rains the night before, they either cancel the performance or close off the lawn without canceling...in that case people are cramped up to the stage and on the sides of Bryant Park. This event is totally free and I would check it out! I love walking through Bryant Park - it is really pretty (but certainly not as big as Central). Plus, their bathroom is supposedly one of the cleanest/best in the US...haha.
