I'm one of those sad people who has never been to NY.
I'm in Boston at the end of the month, and I've got that Sunday free to trek to the city to see one show. Number one, is the bus the smartest way to go, and number 2, would you recommend I buy tickets in advance and pay the money, or wait till we get there that Sunday and either hit TKTS or try to score rush tickets. I'm hoping to see either Urinetown, Movin Out, Hairspray, or Millie, preferrable one of the first 2. What should I do! Argh!

lol, sorry, just love the title, since I've only been there one day I guess I can be considered a tease??

Which is more important, time or money? Urinetown and, Millie are usually available at the tkts booth, and Movin Out some times, Hairspray-not yet for a long while. You can also plan ahead and check broadwaybox.com for discounts. Urinetown is in a tiny theatre, there are no bad seats. Movin Out is for the most part a dance show in a slightly larger theatre, and same said. As for Millie, I have seen this show 4 times, never further back than K orc, and I have to say that this is one show that is well worth it to be close.
I tend to agree regarding Millie...I have sat in the mezz and was not really happy up there...after several times in the orchestra. If you can get here early on Sunday...then try for TKTS.
As for the bus...again...if you can get in town early, go for it! Ck Amtrak too!

RobActorGuy--I've only been there a few hours many years ago. Just long enough to walk from the Twin Towers down to the ferry and back. So if your a tease what am I? A flirt?

Wait...DofB5, I remember you saying you were supposed to go to NYC this past March or something. Because I remember you saying you had tickets to Dance of the Vampires and Les Miz. Did that trip fall through?

PJ, it all went to ashes with DOTV BUT if Chitty and Michael Ball come to New York, we'll see. I (and some friends) are shooting for opening night. Thanks for remembering.

No prob. I always remember stuff like that.
And as for being a Virgin to NYC...I've only been there twice. My firs time was in the 8th grade when we went there on a field trip and practically spent the entire at Ellis Island museums...ick. I hated that. But we did get to drive, yes drive, the through the city a little bit. But then my second time was just last December when my mother and I went for a weekend. It was great. I love NYC.
I'm a NYC whore 2 I even drive in Manhattan!
lol
My favorite game to play in NYC is "Spot the tourist." Yes, we know who you all are. LOL I'm very good at that game. I don't even need to hear the people speak.

They would be the ones wondering around manhattan in a sraw hat, Hawaiian shirt, khaki shorts, sandals, and a camera around their neck. :)

I plan on being THE NYC whore in a few years. lol. I want to go to college there. I'll be the male Blanche Devereau of New York City.
That's what they want you to think.
But to be really good at spotting them, you need to look at the eyes and teeth.
I've seen people who (to the untrained eye) could be New Yorkers; but when you look in their eyes, you can see that little person lost look. And tourists smile way too much.
Watch Steve Martin in "The Out-Of-Towners" when he explains to Goldie Hawn how to walk like a New Yorker. It's so funny, but so accurate.

I remember that part in the film. It was funny.
LOL I have clearly put wayyy too much time and energy into this. But it's really fun when my friends and I are bored. We see who can spot the most tourists. Sometimes we question a person's spotting ability and make them go up to the person to prove that the person is indeed a tourist.
I think it's funny, b/c I've been in places where people can tell right away that I'm a New Yorker (without me speaking). And you should have seen me in Italy with my 3 cameras. LOL I kept saying, "Look! I've become one of them!"...meaning a typical tourist.

I thought you were looking for the VIRGIN Megastore on Times Square - when I saw the title of this thread
I live halfway across the world but I worked in New York a long time ago. I have also traveled on business in the more recent past. But now I do act the tourist when I come and visit ( signs -- cramming 5 Broadway shows in 2 weeks time, going to Ground Zero and Battery Park as the last time I visited the city was in 2000, taking a cab instead of the subway, etc.) but sometimes I fall back to my NYC days ( always looking for the best deals, crossing the street regardless of the street sign and anywhere but the pedestrian lane, going to free Broadway concerts in the rain ( Shubert Alley) and in the freezing summer night ( Bryant Park), etc...)
I love New York !!!
jo
Only 5 shows in 2 weeks. I must be a horrible tourist type, in March I did 6 shows in 6 days! But all for under $250 :) and that was with a $100 Hairspray ticket!
PJ-
I inspired myself to watch that movie again. LOL I watched it this morning and laughed my ass off. I love the part when Steve is running through the streets while under the influance of drugs and singing "This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius, the age of Aquarius...." LOL
CJR-
We need to hang outone day! Nough said. lol
I also thought this thread was about Virgin Megastore before I read it. LOL
