Definitely take the bus. The train is WAY too expensive and takes almost the same time...unless you take Accela which is even more expensive. Right now Greyhound is running $40 RT prices...check out their site...7 day advance required. And the great thing about greyhound is that there is a bus every half an hour. I've already booked my trip for mid August and thats what we are doing.

There's no guarantee the TKTS booth will have tickets for the show you want. Since it's your first visit and you'll only be in NY for the day, I strongly recommend you pre-purchase your tickets so you don't miss your opportunity to see a great show. Discounts are available ordering through the web by using discount codes but there will usually also be a service fee for using on-line ordering. Go to these websites for more information: http://www.broadwaybox.com/ and http://www.talkinbroadway.com/faq/. Have fun!

I agree. I would get the tickets ahead of time. It may not save money, but it saves you worry when you actually get to the city and start searching for tickets.
Hmmm. I'm in enough not generally to be spotted as a tourist( key is to look like u know where you are going in a brisk & determined manner) & my accent is NOT partic Canadian ( Danny Devito told me it was Jersey "but the nice part of Jersey") I am polite but a bit brusqe so I kinda "pass" (lol)
If you are a NYC virgin because you have never been there, then I must be a gigolo...I go in 3 times a month...whatever--regarding your question...I say, if it is your only chance, then pay the money!!! It would be horrible to get there hoping to get RUSH of TKTS and gutter-ball it...you know?? i say pay...

I agree, get advance tickets. Even if a show you want is on TKTS, who knows where in the theatre the seats will be. Also, the time you would spend standing on the line could be spent doing other "tourist" things.
