re: New broadway show

Well, I read this book called "Wicked," and it dawned on me that it might make a good musical...

Oh, sorry... seriously, though, I think there should be more musicals based on Shakespeare plays-- all of the soliloquys and stuff really lend themselves to turning them into songs. I'd LOVE a Macbeth musical. The way it's written really seems to follow a kind of musical format. And I heard there was a musical of Jane Austen's "Emma" in the works, which makes me happy, because I think it suits it really well.

I second the Macbeth musical. I re read it recently and thought the same thing.

re: New broadway show

My friend and I wrote sort of a musical farce version a couple of years ago that spoofed songs from Sweeney Todd and Little Shop of Horrors among other things. It was really stupid, but a lot of fun. Oh, and for some reason, the witches were a girl group like the Supremes, Macduff was really operatic, and Malcolm only sang jazz. (?)

Wow, Holes in particular is really, really intriguing-- I can imagine that, and I think it could be fantastic. 1984 would be a very cool concept, too, though harder to pull off. Weirdly, the one I think would be the least successful of those would be Dr. Horrible, just because it works so well in his current format and changing it for the stage I feel would just be a bit of a mess. And I LOVE Dr. Horrible.

Schmerg, your Macbeth musical sounds fantastic haha.

And 1984 I think would be really good too.

Yes! It would be so campy and ridiculous! Patti would play the Jane Fonda role, Karen Olivo could play the J.Lo role, and Cheyenne could play Patti's son! Perfect!

Ida Lupino's 1966 gem THE TROUBLE WITH ANGELS, starring Hayley Mills, Rosalind Russell and that never-again-seen June Harding.

It just aches to be musicalized on stage AND featuring a funky mid-60's rock-n-roll score (and lyrics) by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

Yes, I know that a Crucible opera exists. I just think that a really campy musical satire would be hilarious.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day
You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

re: New broadway show

I still contend that ZOOLANDER would make an incredible musical. In fact, i could break that script down right now and come up with a treatment, telling where every single song should go.

It really has everything one needs for a good musical.
