New(ish) Footloose Broadway cast recording

Tonight Ghostlight Records digitally re-released the Footloose original Broadway cast recording which has been out of print for some time since Q Records ceased to exist in 2003. The CD will be in stores on October 25th.

The new release has been remastered and comes with new artwork by Frank Verlizzo and a new song performed by Hunter Foster and members of the original Broadway orchestra. The new song takes the place of "Let's Make Believe We’re in Love" in the licensed script so now the cast recording more closely reflects the changes made to the show since the original Broadway run.

I know it’s not the best show ever, but it holds a special place in my heart and I highly recommend checking out the new song for those of you who haven’t heard it!

The updates are good news, since this show is licensed out to schools a lot, and they original cast recording is pretty different than the score they're performing in a lot of ways. It helps to have a more accurate recording. And, as silly as it can be, it holds a special place in my heart, too, CatsNY!

So . . . I Confess has been cut? Anyone know when that happened? I saw the show several years ago (2005 or 2006) and it was still in at that point. So was Let's Make Believe We're in Love (although a much faster version than the waltz on the recording).

"I Confess" was cut and replaced with a scene. "Dancing is Not a Crime" was shortened and put in a different spot in the show. "Let's Make Believe We're in Love" was replaced with "Still Rockin'". Other cuts/changes to the score were also made. I believe it to be a much stronger show in its revised edition.

Me too! I think the show is a lot stronger now. There's still a short reprise of "Heaven Help Me" for Shaw to perform in its place, but "I Confess" has been cut and ultimately I think it's for the better. Even though the song was pretty good the story is really about the kids and "I Confess" sort of stopped the show cold and didn't really fit with the rest of the score either. Sometimes the best songs get cut to better serve the story being told and I think that's what happened here.

I think a lot of the changes were made for here in the UK when it did its second tour prior to the West End.

I still think the West End one should have been recorded, it was far better

Talking about footloose, saw a trailer on tv for a new footloose film !!!
