I agree with the first thing about not bashing shows if we haven't seen them, but the WEDDING SINGER bit? That was uncalled for.
Of course, if you didn't like the show, you wouldn't care...

Posted: 12/18/06 at 11:38pmthe wedding singer was terrible, just accept that it was BAD SHOW. AWFUL. I needed booze at the intermission just to make it through the second act.

^I beg to differ. Wedding Singer makes me extremely happy and I love it :) but, to each his own!
anyway, I kind of have to disagree with the new rule- but only to an extent. See, I dont get to see many shows live, and so I have to make judgements about them based on other things, like cast recordings or.. you know whats. And I truly do believe that if you like a show from the cr of the you know what, chances are you're not going to like it LESS live, so why be denied that oppurtunity to express your love for it? However, I DO agree that people shouldn't be posting nasty, negative comments if they havn't seen a show live- because generally a show is better live than on anything else. So its unfair to make negative judgements without having gotten the full effect of the show. Same goes for individual performances. Now, if you dont like something and havnt seen it live, thats perfectly fine to state that, but I just think its important to do it in a tactfull way and also to let people KNOW that you're judging it solely based off of the recording or *cough*. If you're up front about it, thats fine, but it does get really annoying for people to BASH shows when they've never even seen it live.

Sometimes the theatre tastes on this board really depress the hell out of me. The most recent bout of depression came when on a thread asking for the top 5 cast albums of all time, the Wedding Singer was listed more than any other show. I wanted to cry.
As for the new rules, Id say if people really have something terrible to say, why don't you dare to attach your name to your words. Now thatd take balls.

^just for the record, I probably was one of those people who listed wedding singer in the top 5- and its not like I think its a BRILLIANT piece of theater or anything haha, its just that its so friggin addicting! It's one of my favorite recordings to listen to, thats all!
EDIT: woops, nevermind, sorry I definitely thought you'd said the Top 5 Favorite Recordings! I wouldn't list it on the top 5 of all time
hehe

I just can't.

Posted: 12/19/06 at 7:44amcan we propose a new rule that those who propose unenforceable rules that have no chance of being accepted by the majority of the board be taunted mercilessly?

I agree. I've never seen a thread push the envelope like this one. I'm surprised it hasn't been deleted.

Yeah, see, seeing as how I live miles and miles from NYC and I have no money to go there, I would NEVER be allowed to post! I think that I'm perfectly at liberty to judge a score and libretto from a cast recording.
I agree with the TWS comments: it's not a bad show IMO, but it doesn't deserve all of the praise that it's been getting.
If you bash a show without having seen it, well, some people will probably call you out and humble you. Or later you'll see the show, love it, and then be ashamed for your prior opinion. Essentially, the problem often takes care of itself, and there's no need for a rule against it.
