Thank you to those of you who sent emails to alert us to this thread.
It is illegal to present WICKED in any way, shape or form. If any of you ever learn of illegal productions of WICKED or any of Stephen Schwartz's shows, please email me with details - your identity will be protected. While we're on the subject of illegal activites, if you notice auctions on EBay advertising illegal WICKED recordings, please send me an email. Again, your identity will be protected.
I have already reported this school to the producer's office and I will now let them know about this new "twist" - thanks again to those of you who sent me emails.
Those who present illegal productions of WICKED are taking money right out of Stephen and Winnie's hands. It's not fair. Report it. (No matter what your mother says - she should know better - shame on her)
Thank you for your help. Sincerely,
Michael Cole

P.S. The producers have strict rules for singing music from WICKED in benefit concerts and cabarets - please email me for details if you are interested in using music from the show.

Let's bump so more people will see the response above from the Schwartz camp...
Thanks Michael for letting us know you're on it (and thanks M.F.L. for the update)!

Laws are made for a reason. We should support them (unless they are outrageous, eg Marriage is between a man and a woman, to no exception).
Societies are built on laws, so this school should just deal with that, and do Little Shop of Horrors or Annie...

Illegal? Yes. And since you posted in public, it's possible your school can get caught and sued.
E-mail an owner of the rights, or even Stephen Scwartz himself. Ask for permission. If it's private and truly private, and non-profit, it will be allowed, most likely. Don't bash me for this, I knew it may be allowed.
But since you posted it here, it may not be and you can get in trouble.

"Marlene, you still have to have permission to do a parody of the material."
No, you don't. But it needs to be very clear that it is a parody.
