This is a naive question but what is the outlook for potential tour cast members? I mean, the current newsies are pretty spectacular in dance, tumbling, and (mostly) singing plus they're in their later teens to mid-twenties. Is there a large group of young male actors out there that can pull off what the Broadway cast does? I'm sure that there are great Jacks, Katherines, Cruthies and Daveys out there but the dancing is said to be the standout of this show & I'm wondering if there are guys that can fit those molds.

Just a guess, but there are probably members of the current cast who would be willing to tour, so one would think that the tour cast would be a mix of old and new, with new faces being incorporated into the Broadway cast as well. Who knows, though? It's Disney. Somewhere in Orlando, they may be working at this very minute on Tupac style holograms of the current cast, or at the very least, a Ryan Steele spinning theme park ride.
While we're on the subject, are Newsies Tony chances best served by not announcing the tour until after the Tonys and continuing to dangle that carrot out there as incentive for voters, or by committing to the tour before the Tonys? I have no idea how the politics works here, so I'm honestly interested in opinions.
There are ALWAYS lots of actors out there.
If it was not ever never gonna be limited, why did they book a theatre with another potential occupant?
@curtaindownpuller. Are you refering to the rumors that Annie wanted the Neaderlander??? Because then you are ill informed Annie wanted the Palace
If i had to bet their issue with casting the tour is that they will probably have to hire a ton more swings/understudies because its gonna kill the casts bodies constantly being on the road and performing...disney will never be able to do a non-equity one nighters tour with this its to demanding on the cast.
On the note of other shows tryingto do the limited engagment that never was it has been done before and i dont think Newsies is a true example of that until tickets went on sale, if it wasnt selling out disney would of left it a limited run...Broadway was just meant to help with licensing. But other shows that have done the fake limited engagment are The Les Miz revival, the Original Jekyll and Hyde as well as the Upcoming revival
On the case of Bring it On i honestly dont think its producers have high hopes for it considering most of its regiews compared it to Lysistrata Jones in a negative light saying LJ was the way to do a cheerleading musical. I think the broadway run is in hopes of helping it on Tour, but if its a not, which i wont be they are simply saving face since it prObably not costing them much for the bway run since they have made money through the tour
bdn; Do you work on ANNIE?
That's not what I mean't, ANNIE would have never gone into the Needer. There was another show planned in Sept.
Which was...lemme guess the Virginia Wolf revival?

Wasn't it Virginia Woolf that was meant to go to the Nederlander had Newsies not extended, I read somewhere a new production of being planned to coincide with the 50th anniversary.
@jonwo I have no idea if we posted at the same time like 10 sec off...but way to be on the same wavelength

I think most expected this but congrats to Newsies!

Well just judging on how many guys were invited to first and second callbacks, and the talent there that was turned down (including those with previous Broadway and national tour experience) I would imagine that they would be able to fill out a tour cast by calling back a good chunk of the previous called back boys, Broadway cast members possibly willing to tour, and by holding another open call.
Actually, the one thing I will be interested in is what will happen with ticket sales now that the show has become open ended. There is not longer any immediacy to seeing the show, and getting tickets ASAP to avoid not being able to see a sold out performance.

"to the surprise of no one", myself included.
Casting young guys with all that talent shall be a chalenge, but they did it with even younger guys for Billy Elliot.
Best wishes for a long run!

Congratulations to all involved! I kind of expected it to become open-ended too, seeing as how ticket sales have been great ever since it started previews! But now it's confirmed, and I cannot be happier because now I don't have to rush to see it before August!
