Maybe it's just me, but I sort of feel like the only reason this production is happening is so that the rights can eventually be released and MTI will begin putting a stop to some of the illegal high school productions that take place every year.

At the end of the day I think the movie had a lot of problems and I don't understand why people are so up in arms about a stage production attempting to correct those mistakes. No one here has seen the show yet so I don't really understand how we can already be lambasting the new material. See it first and then complain.

They put clips out there to get a reaction. They didn't say, "Don't think about these clips until after you've seen the show." That's a naive thing to say. Most of you just don't want anyone to have a bad reaction when they see the advance material, so you offer a manipulative comment to censor any negative thoughts. So transparent.

By that narrow way of thinking, I would say, "Wow! Looks great!" would be just as much jumping the gun, wouldn't it? Should I fire back to you with, "How the hell would you know if it looks great? You haven't seen it yet! Don't say that until you see the show first!"

It's a passive/aggressive reaction to tell people to "wait to see the show" before they comment on preview clips and notes from the creative team on the changes being made. It's also wrong of you to think this reaction is a reaction to the show. It's NOT. It's a reaction to the advance material being released TO GET A REACTION. That's why they're doing it.

As for the ignorant poster who thinks I was having "sour grapes" that they didn't make any of MY changes after the focus group ... Read my post again before making personal attacks, you idiot (turnabout is fair play). I said there was a full focus group, not just me in a room, and six months later when I saw the finished film, they had made NO changes to the movie from ANY of the suggestions, not just mine. Why have this "focus group" process, if you've already "locked" the picture? What's the point of going through all of the time and consideration, just to say, "we're not changing a single thing." Not only did they not take any suggestions made in that group session (very likely one of several), they didn't change anything else while the movie sat in a can, waiting to be released. They should have known by the comments being discussed that NOBODY thought the movie was "perfect" or "ready to go." Everybody in the group had ideas of how to fix the flawed material. To watch them smile and nod and sound interested, and then do nothing about it, was educational to me.

It's no different than a show on Broadway going through 5 weeks of previews, then changing, tweaking, and tightening nothing. Why are you previewing then? Just to go through the motions to say you did it?

Anyway, thanks bk for the post. Next time someone says, "why all the hate for a show that hasn't opened yet?," I'll just fire back with, "Why all the insane, drooling love for a show that hasn't opened yet?" It's an advance reaction that SHOULD NEVER be allowed, according to these manipulative posters on BWW. We should all hold our tongues until we've bought tickets and seen shows. Otherwise, DON'T POST. And that goes for EVERYBODY, good or bad thoughts! Keep silent!

What a stupid thing to say.

You don't have to agree with my comments or reactions. Argue with them all you want. But don't be so presumptuous and pompous as to tell me not to make them. That's not how a message board works.

How dare you say "you know you'll enjoy it!" You haven't seen it yet!!! You're really jumping the gun with that remark. Why all the love?

I'm just messing with you, bustinloose, based on the strange philosophy of some posters in this thread. I hope you do enjoy it. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the show.

And maybe it will end up being something more than just "High School Newsical." Time will tell.

Given the disastrous box office of the movie I would say besty's advice was probably spot on.

The movie is boring, unengaging, and sloppy. It is a chore to sit through. And I am a huge Menken fan.

My point is that whatever they change for the stage version, they can't make it any worse than it already is.

One thing they do seem to have gotten right is cutting the completely pointless Ann Margret character.

....but the world goes 'round

I've attempted to watch this movie numerous times. It's just so boring. And watching the clips I was fast forward through a lot. It's just not that engaging or interesting, sorry.
