Re: Corine & THE LION KING - "I'm seeing it in April with my relatives kids in April woo hoo." Please don't be taking any three year olds. As adorable and sweet as a child may be, a three year old just doesn't have the attention span for a three hour show.
Well, in a perfect world, Beauty & the Beast & Phantom of the Opera would have closed 5 years ago. The novelty of the film is starting to wear out for Chicago, and they've running out of b,c, & d-list celebrities to throw into it. Rent is too good a show for boy bands, spice girls, & screaming spoiled teenagers trying to understand the lower east side. Sorry Princess Mimichica ~ but it deserves to close with dignity. There's also alot of disappointment with WT's performance, and regrets about schedueling a tour for it so pre-maturely. Gypsy had better close before Bernie's vocal chords explode trying to keep it open, & Audrey II should start looking for a tin can and pencils.

Finally some real answers! Considering the fact that Gypsy almost closed once already, I'm gonna have to agree with this one. And I've heard Phantom is not staying open much longer. I can also see B&tB closing soon...although fun for a family, it really is not a very exciting show. 42nd Street won't last much longer. And I don't think Bombay Dreams will be well enough received to last too terribly long. As much as I hate it, I also don't think Millie has been doing that well lately.
But honestly, Lion King? Wicked? I know some of you were kidding, but judging by the rest of your list, some of you weren't. Both shows have been filling to capacity and selling out!
I can't imagine they'd close Phantom until well after the movie is released.
Lets go down the list? Aida seems to be depending on "stars" to keep it going, not a good sign. Ave Q- still going strong and will till after the tonys at least. And isnt 42d street closing next Jan? Beauty and the Beast seems to be doing well..Chicago seems to be running on steam so its probably a matter of time. Fiddler got mixed reviews..may last till tonys..but how are sales? Gypsy almost closed..again..its only a matter of time. Revivals have to totally WOW and audience these days or they seem to be forgotten. I mean now that fiddler is open, how much is it mentioned. Once the novelty of the star is seen..then its still the same old material known to everyone. Hairspray is still strong. I hate to say it, because I love the show, but Little Shop doesnt seem to have the chops to stick around for long after the tonys. And with all that is open now in this season i dont see it winning many..and thats sad..cause its a nice show. Mama mia's tickets dont seem to decline..Rent..changed a lot of theatre, but I think time is getting the better of the show, if they made a movie of it, it would guarantee a few more years though. and Boy from Oz will only run as long as Hugh Jackman stays. Lion King will run forever...( I am not going to get started on that) Phantom HAS to stay open till the movie opens this christmas, and besides its the only brit import before the new barage comes. Producers slumped MARJORLY before Lane and Broderick returned..and it will probably happen again. And unless they want to keep a few months free every year, then the show will fizzle. Millie is the same..I think its getting old. Wicked is the new thing..it will run until something new comes along..which is a while..besides its a good show. And wonderful town is doing well..but as I said with revivals..once Everyone is familiar with donna murphy ( who is phenominal I hear) then they will flock to the next revival. With a season as diverse as we've had..bombay dreams has to completely wow the audiences and critics coming in to a season this late. Everyone has their favorite tony pics already or they are looking forward to Assasins or Caroline or change. Will Bombay dreams have a future? It may, but unless it can get an audience late in the season i dont see it sticking around long...

I hate to say it but unless they can get some fabulous promotions out of Wonderful Town.... perhaps.
AIDA is still one of my favorite shows
Etoile,
It is not my three year old Nephew Jackson silly!
It is my Aunts Grandchildren and they are 5.7.11.
I hope Wonderful Town runs for years. It is one of my favorite shows.
I want Stephanie D'Abruzzo to take the Tony and tie with Donna Murphy. The women this year are incredible.

Well now, if you were to take "original 8" principals from Tour 2 of Mamma Mia! and put them on Broadway ( Forgive me Gary, but Monique Lund is a waaaaaaaaaaaay better Donna than Dee!!!!) then Mamma Mia! would never close, because my friends and I would be flying in from across the country weekly to see "my" cast there. Call me biased, and yes I admit I am. After 151 times of Tour 2 and having seen some of the other casts... the others are imposters and pale in comparison to the original Tour 2 principals. ( ie: Monique Lund, Don Noble, Kristie Marsden, Chris Bolan, Ellen Harvey, James Kall, Robin Baxter and Pearce Bunting) Not only were they awesome in the roles, but they are wonderful people as well!
Hee hee... sorry, but couldn't resist putting in my opinion on that one!!!
im praying rent wont close before next september, i also hope that aida holds out till then.
i hate to start a argument (actually- no i dont) but i wish phantom would just close so another show could open in the majestic, needless to say i am not a fan. i was very dissapointed when les miz closed before it, in my opinion it isnt even in the same league as les miz. i only make the comparison becasue they were the two big mega-hits from the 80's still running after cats closed.
The Fantasticks has been closed for two years...
the boy from oz
match
gypsy
golda's balcony
wonderful town
hey nystateomind04
I TOTALLY agree with you about phantom..unforunatly money talks and the movie is coming..which will pump new blood into the show..too bad it wont pump new writing or music into it...
That's not entirely true.. There's talk about the new orchestrations from the Phantom movie being used in the show, plus there'll no doubt be new [oscar-seeking] songs that could be thrown in.
But I do agree that Phantom should be closed (or re-cast).
they would never rewrite phantom..did they change chicago to make it like the movie? well i heard that they dumbed down rozies dancing.like in the movie..for melanie griffith..but i didnt see it so i dont know..but the layout didnt change as far as i know..

sally- Do you really think The Boy From Oz will close before Gypsy and Wonderful Town, or did you just put those down in random order? I'm pretty sure BFO will last through mid-September, when Jackman's contract is up, but can the other two manage?
As for my predictions...I'd rather not make them. Too pessimistic.
"Okay, do you realize that some of these shows are limited runs? Which means they have a set performance dates. The closing dates are known. Often done with plays...like KING LEAR."
Uhhh, duh, why do you think I said it?? Well, it better close soon, cause I have got to get my fill of Lucy Peacock at Stratford!!

After seeing Johnny Guitar tonight i think it will go fast.
The cast are very talented but it is campy and it made me yawn.
I did not hate it but i found it a bore.
The lead female Singer Judy was great but i don't think she can save this show.
The sad thing is this show is produced by the same producer as Listen To My Heart which i loved and wished it was playing in the Johnny Guitar theater.
Listen To My Heart was a wonderful show.
For open-ended shows...
Disney plans to keep pumping Aida to keep the theatre for Little Mermaid in 2005
Bombay Dreams will be a short lived spectacle
Caroline or Change won't make it far after the Tony's; even with Tonya's sure-bet Tony award.
Little Shop smells like the biggest Tony casuality.
POTO was rumored to be ending in late 2004. But that was months ago, so who knows...
Millie's on it's way out. A London import wants the Marquis. Badly.
42nd St was announced. Thank God.
And Rent - if there is a theatre God. End it on sort of a high note...don't drag it on and on...
And also, Match is having issues making it to opening. Another sure-bet that it will not receive kind notices.

Will AIDA close? I thought Disney was hellbent on keeping their shows open forever.
Seriously, is it possible they have an unwritten policy about not closing their Bway shows, because AIDA and B&B both seem to have long overstayed their welcome
I agree with JJ..I feel bad about little shop..but its bound to happen...i also feel that wonderful town will close quickly..if bombay dreams is the short lived spectable you ( and I) think it will be..do you think it will slow next years transfers of Jerry springer, and chitty?
With the $1 million gross it has been making every week, Wicked should not be going anywhere for a while.
Millie will not be closing soon they show is making enough money to keep it running.
I am my own wife will make it until the end of the summer.
wonderful town will make it through the tony's and sadly I doubt much beyond that
Gypsy will close UNLESS they can find someone to replace Bernadette that draws in a crowd.
Beauty and the beast will not close for a long time. Disney will make sure of that!
So really my picks for the next five shows to close:
Boy from Oz
Fiddler
Wonderful Town
(hopefully) Bombay dreams
Wonderful Town maybe..I hope the yall make it thru the summer!
Wonderful Town?
That is really sad as it is a magnificent production.
