It was changed last night too, it worked much better. Now there isn't any funny math going on.

Now what would you say if today I started over? Without a thing but this taped together four leaf clover And I'll pretend like everything is already alright And I'll run toward the sun till the castle's out of sight

I'm glad they have changed it to 8 months, now the math and the logic of the situation all make a lot more sense.

I knew I wasn't crazy. It was an intentional lyric change... not a "Flub".

right, but the birthday occurs in the fall, and the line about 17 years occurs in the spring

The birthday COULD be in the LATE fall/EARLY winter. Let's remember all we know is that it's September during "Just Another Day". Assuming Henry crashes Natalie's practice THAT DAY, it would be sometime in November, possibly December that the birthday happens.

As for "the line about 17 years", yes, that DOES work as someone else already pointed out. 17 years plus 8 months. And I doubt that she means literally "He died 17 years ago TODAY" when she says it. One of those roughly 17 year things.

As far as why it took so long to fix it... It could be any number of things, but IMHO most likely it's like when you're working on a paper or project for so long you lose the ability to see little things (or seemingly not so little things). With all the changes that have happened, it really doesn't surprise me that those working on it and familiar with it would miss that discrepancy.
