I haven't seen a thread for this yet...
Next to Normal is on Twitter, and this is their most recent update:
"Only 4 days until the N2N Twitter performance begins! Each day a new scene will unfold thru June 7th."
Not really sure what that means....and it conveniently coincides with Tony time...my interest is peaked!

Posted: 5/5/09 at 12:04amAlright, I just got the first update, and it's just a link to track one of the CR. Is that all they're doing? Providing links to the CR tracks? Or because it's a "twitter performance", is it going to be like a soundboard recording, since there's a good bit left off of the recording? Hmmmm

I'm following too, of course, but this confuses me.
They're going to give away the entire plot through their Twitter account? Not so sure how I feel about that...especially with this show specifically. I don't know, we'll see how it goes. My interest is definitely piqued as well.

They will be posting a song/songs day by day.
“For the first time ever, the full story of a Broadway musical will be told via Twitter. Follow the characters of Next to Normal as they tweet their story – all the lows, all the highs – day by day, song by song,†the “Next to Normal†official website states.

At first I was skeptical, but I'm liking this now. Along with the tracks from the cast recording, the "characters" are tweeting status updates...
The latest:
*SPOILER ALERT*
NATALIE - Mom's on fire this morning. May school show mercy.
DIANA - Making lunches. Ham sandwiches. Gabe's favorite. Natalie wants vegetarian. She gets lettuce.
GABE - Snapshot: Mom making lunch. How many mothers do it on the floor? Love that crazy lady.
And those were around 8/8:15-ish. I guess they'll do a scene per day, like the write-up says, and it will coincide with the appropriate time of day.
I think it's fun and a clever marketing tactic for those who are aware it's taking place.

Posted: 5/11/09 at 10:50amI feel like the Twittering kind of loses the tone of the show- it sounds very light and flippant. I also feel like Natalie wouldn't post so much about "Stoner Jazz Boy"... she has too many other things to worry about!

Posted: 5/11/09 at 11:59amI think it's kind of amusing, but what is the point of it? Is it to promote the show? Only people who are already fans know what's going on. Other people won't have a clue and will be spoiled.

i absolutely hate this! if this is a marketing attempt to get people interested... its failing miserably because this is just stupid. im a HUGE fan of n2n, and find this just irritating and almost insulting to the show and its characters. updates like this:
n2nbroadwayDAN ?I am the one who knows her. I am the one who cares. Why does she act like she's angry at me? What did I do?
n2nbroadwayDIANA ?is reading today's obituaries...feeling jealous of the dead. Dan doesn't understand.
NATALIE ? doesn?t want to go see Star Trek. Highly loserish. Stoner Jazz Boy?s suggestion. Bah.
they are just stupid and i dont like how theyre acting like its taking place right now... i.e references to swine flu and star trek. i also hate how they take random lyrics from songs for the characters to "twitter" about. i just dont understand it at all and it makes these beautifully developed characters seem annoying and irrelevant, and extremely confusing if any followers arent familiar with the show and the plot

I totally agree it does have a flippant tone, but I think you don't really have a choice with Twitter. Which is why they probably should have nixed it in the first place. I would have much rather seen some sort of youtube series or some other creative ploy, more fitting with the show.
Some of the 'tweets' are amusing but I HATE when they incorporate lyrics. And totally agree that fans are the only ones that will be 'in' on the jokes.
It's fun in theory, but...meh. Could have done something else.
